For the last 2 mornings, at around 8:00am, I've received a phone call from someone claiming to be with Fingerhut. I don't take calls from numbers I do not recognize, but both times, the representative left me a voicemail asking for me, by name, and saying they had important information about my account, and to call them back. After the second voicemail, I decided I'd give them a call, just to make sure that everything is ok. I've never used Fingerhuts services, or to my knowledge used anything affiliated with them. I checked my credit report, and it shows nothing about credit with them preseny or past. Anyway, I called, and when the woman answered, She just simply stated her name. I wish I had taken her name, but I didn't think to do so. She didn't state that she was a rep for Fingerhut or for anyone for that matter. I stated that I had received a call from this number for the last two days stating that I should call them back regarding important account information. The woman asked for my phone number, which I gave her, and was unable to find anything. She then double checked my name, and could not find anything. Then she asks for my social security number. This immediately raised a red flag for me. I simply told her that i don't give my social to anyone over the phone. She said that would be the only way to pull up my account information. I explained to her that I've never had an account with Fingerhut in my life, and don't plan to. She was persistent about getting my social security number. I just told her no thanks and hung up the phone. I may be wrong, but it felt like it could be a phishing scam, and I just wanted to warn anyone else who could fall victim. NEVER give your social over the phone...especially when you have no clue who you are really talking too. That's all I have to say. Thank you.
