2 Years ago I brought in my car to have an alignment done at the Naperville location.  Right after I left the lot I couldn't drive straight unless the steering wheel was way off to the right.  I brought it back for them to do another alignment.  Saturday I brought in my car to the Shorewood location because I suspected a bad wheel bearing.  I told them about the grinding noise coming from the front left tire and told them that's the only thing I noticed wrong, that's why I brought it in.  The guy at the counter treated me as if I was stupid because of the conclusion I came to of what is wrong.  They called me back sunday telling me that my two front rims are bad and that all the tires are worn different because the car is out of alignment.  The alignment was done by the Naperville firestone 2 years prior so there is one problem right there.  Next they tell me, yes the bearing on the front left tire is going and that I need to replace the abs speed sensor with it. [continued below]....

.....  Also the back brakes were bad which I kind of figured.  So he gave me the estimate of repairing the wheel bearing at about $1000 because the speed sensor is expensive and with labor.  That wasn't including two new rims.  I tell them just to do the back brakes for now, so they did.

Later on Sunday, they call me that they are done so I pick it up right at closing time (5pm).  Immediately as I'm driving home I notice the car is a lot louder.  Sounded like the exhaust to me.  So today I bring it back in which is monday.  The guy at the counter when I start telling him something don't sound right and I believe it's my exhaust, he gives me a snotty attitude saying "Oh it's probably your bearings getting louder now that your back brakes are fixed.  So I tell them I want them to look at it anyways because it sounds a lot different than when I brought it in.  They called me back 2 hours later, the mechanic tells me "There definitely is something wrong with the exhaust."  So I told him it wasn't doing that before I brought it in and he says, "I doubt that."  And then says well exhausts aren't there speciality and says I can pick the car up.  He then changed the subject back to the wheel bearings so I wouldn't talk about the exhaust.

So now I have a car that still has a bad wheel bearing and the exhaust has a problem that wasn't there before.  The 3 people I dealt with were all ignorant when in fact I was right about what I believed was wrong, both the problem before I took it in and the problem that they caused during the time they had it.

Surprised at the response

AUTHOR: Mike - ()

As a long term customer of the Firestone location in Plainfield IL I have had good experiences. Rodney who works at the desk has always been great. Very professional and an asset to that location.

My reason for writing is I was not aware that Firestone sold franchises, however I could be wrong. With that being said if all there locations are corporate owned I would find it hard to believe that the CEO would have taken the time to respond to this issue.

And if he did or more than likely he had someone on his staff handle this issue. What really concerns me is the way in which this issue was responded to. For sure NO owner or CEO of a large corporation would ever respond in a public forum in the way that was done here.

This response from "The Owner" needs to be forwarded to the office of the CEO. I would hope he would be concerned that a local manager or a franchisee is representing Firestone in this manner.

At the end of the day all a company has is there reputation. And this particular person did all he could to destroy the "Brand" that the company spends millions of dollars a year to build.

First off, I never said I wanted anything free out of this.  The only thing that is going to happen now is they are going to lose a bunch of constumers as I have family and friends that would go to them and now they won't either.  Second, the original reason I took it in was for the bad wheel bearing because it is a real safety issue.  The brakes needed to be changed but had a little time left.  If I wanted to accuse firestone of breaking things I wouldn't have told them to go ahead and change them and pay.  The $3000 estimate is ridiculous for the bearings to me so I declined them to do that.  I didn't expect to pull off the lot and have the exhaust to be real loud.

Also you weren't very smart because you didn't read the fact they haven't fixed the bearings so it's not an issue of the grinding going away and now i'm hearing the exhaust.  The exhaust is completely louder than the little bit of grinding from the bearings.  I hardly hear the grinding now because how loud the exhaust is.  The mechanic himself said when he called me back that the exhaust is louder than normal.  So simply he was accusing me of lying when all I wanted was for them to check it out and try to figure out why.

I wasn't asking for anything for free.  I have better things to do then try to waste my time getting something for free out of someone.  The fact in the matter is I still have the bad wheel bearings and now my exhaust is real loud.  So something they did affected the exhaust, it didn't just happen to go bad after I dropped it off right before they looked at it.  3 different services in 2 years they did with an alignment they messed up both times.  An oil change after I got new tires the month before and them trying to tell me I need new tires.  The mechanic tried to put the gauge just a little bit in the tread so I would believe him, but yeah I'm not gullible.  Finally this service now they did.

I already emailed corporate about all of this and this report is quite simply to warn others of what to expect.  It's kinda funny how many similar reports about firestone are on this site.  So I hope you are not the real owner and someone who just thinks he is a know it all, because you are about as ignorant as the employees at firestone I dealt with today.  Never seen a place where the constumer has be on the defensive from the start and accused of lying when asking nothing more than to look at the part that isn't right now.  It's to each their own, if they want to risk what I did for the third time, which is getting horrible service from firestone.  I will take my service elsewhere now.  5 years of going to firestone no longer.

I hope you're smarter than your company

Also let me bring up another time around that 2 years ago when I put new tires on and a month later I went to get an oil change from this firestone in shorewood.  They tried telling me my treads were down and needed new tires.  I go out with the mechanic and he didn't even put the gauge all the way in.  Clearly firestone is more about ripping the costumers off than helping them out.  Your ignorance like your employees proves it.  And if you could read right instead of jump to conclusions I orignally brought the car in just for the bearings.  I wasn't gonna have the brakes messed with at that time.  Also the grinding of the bearings wasn't as loud as what the exhaust is now, so that obviously didn't mask the sound.  But hey if that's how you treat your customers by accusing right off the bat instead of working with them, then your company really is nothing more than about the higher up just ripping the customers off for money.  If that's how you operate and what makes you feel good about yourself at the end of the day, then so be it.  You just have a few less people to do it to now.

As the title says, you are just as ignorant as the people working for you if that is the case.  I don't have time to play games with incompetent people.  I took the car in to get a job done and it's obviously in worse condition because of firestone.  It's kinda pathetic that 2 different locations cannot do their jobs right.  I read reviews all over the internet after this and no wonder there is a one star rating almost from every state you are in.  The fact in the matter is your company is total crap and I'll go somewhere else as will everyone in my family and others that I can get the message to.  I have a life and it don't involve useless morons.  Pathetic to right away accuse your constumers of lying from the start.  I have no need to bullshit about your company.  Only stating a true fact about the ignorance and waste of your company's services.  So you can take your company and your rebuttal and shove it up your ignorant a*s.  Have a good day!

#5 REBUTTAL Owner of company

Wow aren't you smart..

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

It is amazing how you can tell EXACTLY what is wrong and apparently have a 100% success rate on your diagnosis.   Who knows perhaps you are some "car whisperer".

Of course one has to wonder how if you are so smart how did you apparently miss the uneven wear on your tires from what you are accusing the other store of doing a bad alignment 2 years ago.  After all remember this statement you made about the ONLY thing wrong was the grinding.

I told them about the grinding noise coming from the front left tire and told them that's the only thing I noticed wrong,

- And of course it is absolutly 100% impossible that the sound from the grinding was masking the Exhaust issue....yea makes total sense.  Oh and perhaps it was your insistance that the bearing was the ONLY thing that was wrong and the only thing YOU noticed that they didn't look at the exhaust.  But then again we have to wonder why if the bearings were the only thing you noticed...how come you also said you figured the brakes were bad as well?  Did you just hope that they would miss that so you could accuse them of damaging those as well?

Now, the fact is that no one here was at this place, and no one where will be there when you take it to the dealer to have the exhaust issue looked at.  So we really don't know if Firestone did anything, perhaps they did or perhaps they didn't.  But I would pay a pretty penny to see your expression when the dealer tells you that nothing Firestone did could have caused the Exhaust issue.

Of course if the dealer did tell you that Firestone did cause the issue, I hope you file suit against Firestone, post the docket and court information here and be sure to tell the mechanic at the dealership that you are going to need them in court to swear under oath that Firestone caused the issue.
