First National Collection Bureau offered me a settlement to pay off a debt. I mailed in the money as requested. They cashed the first check and held the second check until after the settlement due date and clamied that they never received the second check that stated paid in full. Now they are asking me for more money or threaten to harm my credit. I wrote both checks back in April, 2008 and mailed them both in the same envelope and dated the first check 4/14/2008 and the other dated 4/30/2008. The first check was cashed on 4/17/2008 and no one seems to know where the second check is. Today, June 10th, I received a letter from them demanding more money. I had to stop payment on the 2nd check that stated paid in full because they claimed to have never received it. How could you receive one without the other. They offer you a paid in full settlement knowing that they are not really going to settle for that amount. Instead they cash your first check, hold the other checks until the past due date of the settlement then they demand more money from you.
