THE FORD DEALER SHOULD NOT HAVE CHARGED YOU

LOOKS LIKE TO ME THEY BILLED FORD AND MADE MONEY OFF OF YOU TOO.
I AM NOT SURE THERE IS VERY MUCH YOU CAN DO ABOUT THIS EXCEPT NOT TO BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE FROM THIS GUY.
IF HE HAD VALUED YOUR CUSTOMER LOYALTY AND RESPECTED YOUR BUSINESS, HE WOULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS TO YOU.

What year is the car?

Surely this can be bypassed...the problem is finding someone who knows how to do it and won't mess up the electrical system or rip you off. But they are out there. I would do this for you for around 100 dollars but the car would need to be here in Los Angeles.
Now has far as what you paid, I can not agree if you were ripped off or not unless I had a part number and time it takes to replace it. Problem with many cars today is they are over engineered and use computers for everything. They go bad like all electronics will eventually, and we have to pay a fortune to replace them. If you had this done at the dealer you probably paid 2 to 3 times what a local shop would charge...but you don't want a local shop doing this unless you know for a fact they are qualified. Word of mouth and ask to see the current certifications is a start.
