For any person who reads this, please do research before you disregard the information I am providing you. There are several people who have left positive reviews with this hotel who are either the owner, agent or employee. There are hundreds of credible negative reviews that show accuracy as to what I had experienced when I was accustomed with this "hotel".

First of all, this is not a typical hotel. This place is run down, the pictures on the website are cropped to fill your imagination with a dreamy, clean place that is cool and comfortable. Far from the truth! This place, Fortuna House, is a run down flop house with IKEA furniture as the theme. The security for this place is "none" and the parking is street side in the middle of gangland.

Yes, street side parking where your personal effects, including your car can be used for any stunt leading to a major theft of the entire vehicle to the ordinary break in during the middle of the day. I would never trust the parking alone for this establishment. With respect to the building, noting that there is no parking, you have the entrance to your room, and room it is. The doors are very thin, cracks and space between the bottom of the door allow any person to take a peek and while you may enjoy the sights of Miami, you will not be so certain if someone decides to enter your room for a more intimate peek while you are gone.

The facility is run by a person who will keep your deposit for any reason she can find. This person has numerous complaints, including myself with the Better Business Bureau for theft of funds. I personally thought this person was honorable when speaking with her until I viewed the property. I left the property and immediately filed a claim for fraud with my credit card company for misrepresentation of the facility on both her website and Travel Adviser / Expedia.

The list is long and I intend to continue - with the fight for goodness. If you are considering a trip to Miami, do not be fooled by this person at Fortuna House. There is a reason whey they are always available during the peak season. BEWARE! This place is a sham. And there is nothing like representing a hotel for your vacation that has secrets. The secret for this place is that we did not feel safe, we did not feel comfortable and the owner / manager is an outright awful person.

If the owner manager feels the need to challenge this. Like I said, we intend to continue... I have video, pictures, documentation and investigative reports and I will accept any challenge in a court of law to show this is a money trap for good honest people trying to relax.

POSTED: Wednesday, April 19, 2017

I find it absolutely ridiculous that this post is from 2013 (4 years ago!) and contains the same misleading pictures contained in the current listing on VRBO/HomeAway ... the ones we were recently fooled by!  Do not trust this place ... Our room looked nothing like this and I am not sure that ANY of their rooms looked like this ... even 4 years ago!!

We offer street parking

AUTHOR: Manager - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, February 15, 2013
The Fortuna House Apartments does not advertise that we offer assigned parking. Our website
states that there is free street parking in front of the building.

Regarding your parking ticket - parking on the street IS free and easy to do, but you do need
to pay attention to all the normal things such as  not parking facing the
opposite flow of traffic,  not blocking private driveways and/or fire hydrants, and
abiding by all parking signs, such as are normally found all over miami-dade
county. We have never had a problem with parking and this is the first time we
have ever heard of someone getting a ticket. Regrettably, parking tickets are
out of our control and are not our responsibility.

All I have to say is that was also a victim, this place is not as advertised. I also did get a parking ticket because you have to park on the street.

No Wrongdoing

AUTHOR: Manager - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 19, 2012

The case was launched by a disgruntled guest who was attempting to use extortion and online bullying against our company. The case was dropped against Rainbow Real Estate in December 2012 . There was no wrongdoing found on the part of anyone associated with the Fortuna House or Rainbow Real Estate.

Investigation Launched

AUTHOR: Darren S - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, July 16, 2012

I too have had a very similar situation with this lady at the Fortuna House. Almost everything the same, right down to the owners response. Somehow, she gets reviews removed from the travel sites out there and is able to perpetuate this scam.

I have contacted the Florida Department of Real Estate and was successful at getting them to initiate an investigation. If you have information which you believe will be useful, I urge you to contact Michelle Atkinson (INvestigation Specialist) at FL DRE.

We are a legitimate company established in 2003

AUTHOR: Manager - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, May 31, 2012

When you book on the fortuna house website you are asked to sign your name agreeing to the terms and conditions. This is where the signature we have on file for guests comes from. You are then prompted to input your own credit card information. Since the guest did do  that, this is why he is now disputing it with his credit card. The cancellation policy clearly states that if you pay a $250 deposit and then do not show up to stay with us, you will in turn lose that deposit. Although we are not a hotel, we are an apartment complex, all hotels have the same policy regarding same day cancellations. You can not expect to cancel on the arrival date and get a full refund and this is clearly stated on our website as to avoid situations just like this. I advise anyone booking a hotel or vacation rental to clearly read their terms and conditions before reserving. This will avoid unnecessary inconvenience in the event your plans  change , you need to cancel, and you have not purchased trip insurance.

Rather than say there is dishonesty on the part of the company, it is more honest to be informed of all policies where you are staying, and to abide by the rules that you agreed to upon reservation.

This guest was a no- show and is disputing the loss of his deposit through his credit card. He will write any derogatory information he can to discredit us until he wins the chargeback and his money is refunded. Please feel free to research Rainbow Real Estate & the BBB to confirm our good history in our community. Rainbow Real Estate, a licensed Real Estate Company established in 2003 manages the property. We have had over 5000 guests over the years. There are only about 60 reviews that have been written by guests over the years, most of which have been positive experiences. We invite any potential guests or tenants to come and take a tour of this fully renovated property or view our online gallery at www.fortunahouse.com.
