I can not believe that you said that about your own niece. Framingham is a dispicable prison to say the least. These women are human beings and should be treated as so. Had my mother been treated the way she deserved, she may still be here today. Framingham prison is where my mother died due to neglegence of the prison staff. And they were held liable. The way these women are treated and what it does to their psych is inhumane!

I am the one complaining about the horrible conditions, and we visit her all the time.

She is almost done.  If you can imagine this, she had cancer and they wouldn't even let us visit her at the hospital.  People who condem them because they did wrong, should shut their mouths, I agreed with that.  No one deserves that kind of treatment they get, maybe the ones that murdered people, but to go to prison because of drug issues is wrong.  There has to be another way.

wow, you're an even bigger a**hole than the other people who posted,"so what" comments.nice to know you care so much about your niece.i'm 28 and i was a heroin addict since the age of 16.i've been clean for 2 years now,and i spent 3 months in framingham for drug possession.it's absolutely deplorable.over 63 percent of the overcrowded inmates there are in for nonviolent,mostly drug related offenses.and yes,they do starve the inmates by giving them about 800 calories a day of mostly inedible food.i was denied my medication,which costs $3 a month,without being given any reason.

i'm guessing that your niece has some substance abuse and/or mental health issues, about 90 percent of the inmate population does.obviously you're too ignorant on the topic to realize how complex such issues are,and you seem to be lacking any compassion at all(even for your own family member).you can't just wave a magic wand to become unaddicted to drugs or not mentally ill.it takes lots and lots of effort and SUPPORT from non-douchebag people.maybe if you reached out to your niece and showed her you cared,you could help her a little.you make me sick,as do the people who clearly violate amendment against cruel and unusual punishment.

Like I said earlier, these people are human beings.  Not all of them murdered or hurt someone.  They are addicts.  Look at Whitney Houston with all her money she could not beat the odds.  These people have problems, sure they hate it there but when you have a problem you don't think of that, you just need your fix.  I really resent that people think this behavior should be brutal to scare them straight, that just isn't right.  I hope you never find yourself in a situation where you are innocent and thrown in there, because that's happened as well.  Then you might think differently.

Whether or not the conditions are horrible at Framingham isn't the issue. The more horrible the better. My niece at 31, is now in for her third time. Maybe if it were truly horrible, she'd make different choices. If not, she's not a candidate for society. For all those that are sentenced there, and realize they never want to end up there again, then the prison system worked. For those that don't get the crap scared out of them, well, you have bigger issues.

I agree with Maggie.  The  conditions are horrible but my daughter sucks it up because she knows what she has done and deserves to be where she is.  I also agree about the guards.  They treat the prisoners like non-humans just because they can.  My daughter went to the gym everyday and bulked up just like a man to protect herself.  She didn't have any fights that I know of but she got stronger to protect herself.  I know she didn't tell me the whole story and I guess it's best that I don't know.  I send her canteen money when I can so she knows what she is eating.

As far as the Maris House, you have to go to WIT first and while I do agree it is a major step to get there, most guards are just as bad as those in Framingham.

This is in response to the report written about the conditions and food given at the women's prison.  I'm equally upset at people that write, oh well, this is a prison.  So people are bad, they often make mistakes, most of them in that prison are drug addicts or addicted people.  So these consumers think that they deserve to ride to a court appearance for 4 hours, listening to others getting sick and throwing up and sitting in their own vomit, while the driver ignores it.  The food, we can't give them even a low grade meat, they get soy meatballs that basically are not even able to eat it.  This is a women's prison and grant it there are a few nice guards, but for the most part the male guards peek at the girls taking showers, if there's a fight, so much time is lost because the guard cannot get in the middle, he has to wait for help, but that time if a girl takes another one's spot watching a TV program or looks at another person wrong, she gets sliced by a razor blade until she's not even recognizable.  I  have a family member who cannot get off drugs, tells us she's learned her lesson that gets caught drinking and his throw back in there to serve out the rest of her time.  It sickens me that she's living in fear every day while she's there.  Sure people can say why do wrong, sometimes people think so low of themselves they can't help themselves.  Should they be subjected to these kinds of conditions even though it's prison.   They're so strict yet somehow these woman get razer hide them and threaten the other inmates.  There should be something else and this place should be investigated and shut down.  I'm sorry there are so many perfect people out there that think inmates who are human beings deserve this because they screwed up their lives.  I do not.

that you're talking about a prison? It sounds more like the local Motel 6.

Please tell us how many Inmates have been starved to death, and while you are at it where you are getting this information?   

Shackled hand to food? Locked in a darken van in a cage? Starved to death? Are you serious!!! These are CRIMINALS! If these are true what are you doing about it instead of posting on ROR????
