FYI, in the US it is ILLEGAL to require a down payment, insurance, pre-payments, etc as a condition for being approved for unsecured consumer credit.

BTW - I suspect Emily doesn't have 2 kids to swear on. You were lied to from the beginning and the $12,000 was the bait to hook you.
Yet, it's important to be an educated consumer....This transaction had "scam" written all over it....wiring money to Jamaica to qualify for a loan?
No legitimate company that will give you a loan will require any "deposit" up front.
Honestly, there's nothing you can do...
Lesson learned....
