I hired Freightquote to move a sensitive piece of equipment. Specified: blanket wrap, blocked and secured on truck, point-to-point dedicated air-ride truck, insured for $85,000 value. Truck arrived with equipment strapped to the side of the truck but not wrapped. Truck was full of other items, none wrapped, and blankets were piled by the back door. Driver stated that they were "always getting in the way!" Damage to unit was not evident until unwrapped, and driver was trying to flee. As soon as we discovered the damage, our Freightquote customer service contact, Jeff, was reached by phone. While we were talking I walked out to ask the driver some questions, and he put the truck in gear and hauled a**!
It was clear from the damage that the equipment was not secured during the trip from NY to NC. I suspect that the driver only strapped it down when he got tired of hearing it banging around in the back.
Jeff started the "claims process" but what a joke that was! We submitted pictures and a repair quote, and were promptly told that if the carrier didn't pay a claim, neither would Freightquote. I said I didn't hire their carrier, I hired them, but that was just laughed at. Guess what? The carrier refused to pay the claim. I'm left with the impression that there was never any insurance coverage provided, even though it was supposedly included in the price.
Since Jeff refused to take my calls any more, I contacted my sales rep, Drew, and explained my problem, and he apologized and promised to escalate me up the chain. This only resulted in a collection call from Freightquote threatening me to get me to pay my bill. In the end, all they did was credit me for the cost of the shipment. I'm stuck with $4000 in repair costs.
If you look around on the internet any further, you'll see a consistent pattern regarding Freightquote's claims service, along with lots of complaints about overcharging/not honoring their quotes. I only wish I had investigated them more beforehand. This company is a FRAUD. Don't use them if you value what you are shipping!
