EDitors NOTE: The report below was found to be false. They never responded to our email to assist them. Rip-off Report has concluded through a thorough investigation that Fresh-O-Matic does have offices and a warehouse and is in good standing within the law. They have been a 100% law abiding company since 1986. We also learned that the person filing this complaint never did business with the company. The charges made here were completely false. Rip-off Report does not condone this kind of behavior. Rip-off Report has confirmed Fresh-O-Matic Corporation is a Verified safe business.
Fresh-O-Matic ripoff Dishonest During Trade Show About Franchise Opportunity Toronto Ontario
My husband and I recently attended a local franchise show, looking to start our own business. We're pretty young, and wary of scams and spending a ton of money on something that doesn't check out.
First of all, the presentation that the Fresh-O-Matic company put on sold us. We were ready to hand over our $15k to get started with two vending machines of our own until my husband began to research. The reason that I am posting this is because we could find virtually NO information on this company when we began our research - good or bad. So we wanted to make sure that we could help inform the next young (or old!) couple trying to make a life for themselves.
The presentation was put on by two brothers that supposedly share 35 machines. This may or may not be true, but what we did end up finding is that the brother who we set up our meetings with is actually listed as a salesman for a marketing company. This is all well and good, but my husband continued his research and contacted the president of the company (he got that information off of the BBB website). The president of the company confirmed that he was actually a salesman and did not work for Fresh-O-Matic. Still ok. When that man called my husband back to answer some questions about the presentation, however, he denied being with any type of marketing company and said that he worked for Fresh-O-Matic. Period. Here is where things begin to not add up.
My husband also requested further references - the company provided a sheet with four references that were located in different places across the country - and a chance to speak one-on-one with one of the 'coaches' that the presenter raved about through the entire session, so that he could discuss their role in the process. He was told that the company would not be able to provide further references. He was also told that the coaches were basically too busy to talk to him. According to the BBB, the FTC requires that any business opportunity provide at least 10 references to prospective investors. That was strike two.
Strike three was the fact that once my husband began asking questions, doing his homework, and requesting more information from them he was told that 'maybe owning your own business just isn't for you'. Which not only was insulting, but uncalled for.
I'm not saying that this company is totally a scam, I just want to put out there what we found. We did not end up purchasing vending machines from them, as I refuse to go into business with people that don't give correct/accurate information the first time.
