This company has been contacting my parents address threatening to collect 39,840.37 for child support in arrears. After a horrific experience 6 years ago when my passport was cancelled for the same reason.
I was told by a collection agent that I owed over 20,000 USD and there was nothing they could do, now I was stranded in a foreign country away from my home and unable to work or travel. It took us almost three (3) years to settle with the county, who claimed that they were unable to find my case, then they accepted a settlement for only 3,000 USD. Case closed in April of 2005. Now I received a letter from this company in October of 2007 and another one, more threatening in June of 2008. My case has been settled but can these guys cause me grief again like they did six years ago? I was angry and I wanted to expose this injustice and had prepared to respond agressively to their claim until I ran them through the internet and discovered several similar complaints. Are these people's methods legal? Are they a legit company ruining lives and families with unlawful collection practices? Someone needs to teach them a lesson, I want to fight back.

OK u should still have proof of that settlement offer it should state something like they are clear the entire issue for the amount of $3000(WITH THE NAME OF THAT COMPANY) by a certain date, and u should have a bank statement or money order recpt from when u paid showing the date that u paid. Also request that they fax something to u showing the bill and that they have it. if u have that info and its correct fax it to them and the 3 major credit agencys

Ok. First off, most calls are recorded from the call centers for GC Services so if someone was breaking the law it wouldn't be very smart of them because there would be undeniable evidence against that person or company. Second, the management of the company would not dare risk loosing a client that they collect for because the money is too precious to the deep pockets of the VIP's. Therefore, any illegal activity would be handled immediately and harshly.
Third, the company only calls people with the information given to them by the client (the person you owe the money to), and it's usually a very small amount of information. And so the person calling you from GCS has no clue about what's going on with the debt that you owe. So if you intend to get upset at someone call the people you owe the money to. Don't worry about the guy trying to collect for the company.
Finally, do you have any idea how much money GCS throws at litigation and law suits over the course of one year? There are plenty of people trying to sue the company but many fail because the company has the best lawyers money can buy, and all of our paperwork and phone calls are well documented. We will never admit to this over the phone, but we keep very good records. If asked about recorded calls we say that the call isn't recorded because it is only for the company's (legal) actions.
As an employee there I deal with this kind of complaint all day. The reason I'm telling you like this is because I would get fired if they knew I was giving out this info over the phone. So when I say that you can dispute it with the lawyers and the legal actions but it wouldn't get you anywhere, you may want to consider this in your decision.

You can call an attorney and tell them what G.C. Services has done to you. I suggest you keep notes of dates and times they call and get statements from family members they have contacted. G.C. Services is not afraid to break the law and they love to bully people. I won my fight against them and I know others have won as well. Gather your paperwork and call a lawyer. It does not cost you anything G.C. Services will have to pay the attorney fees when the case is settled. Good luck.
