I recently applied for a position in the auto industry, I have never been in car sales but figured i'd give it a shot since. I need to provide for my family. Anyhow I apply and get a response to meet a Mr.Bob Gaber. When I arrive at the interview he asks me a couple of questions and tells me to come the next day to begin training. Did that an as soon as I get there, around 15 people are there also vying for the same position.

Training begins and everything seemed to be ok, until he asks us for a payment of $399....I was like no way. I have never paid to get a job and if I could pay I the money then why im I looking for a job.All the group pays on the last day. After we all pay he sends us out on a wild goose chase and when we come back we see that the money had already been either deposited or cashed.

After the training is done he says he has to leave and makes us wait for the owner of the dealership to come. This takes over 2 hours( Very unprofessional). When interviewed by the owner we were told that since we're new we still have to pass a background check, and that we are not yet employed. I thought that had been done already. They told me we would have a draw of $300 a week!! that wont even pay my housing, plus We would only have two days a month off working store hours which is around 12-14 hours a day!!!

It seems they never wanted us to work, they just want to have something to show because nobody that has a family will work under those conditions. This is a huge rip-off and I will put a stop payment immediately on the check I gave him. The AD on Careerbuilder said flexible hours, that doesnt seem  to flexible to me. Please be wary of this individual, hes a smart man and a smooth talker. Stay away at all costs.

To the guy that this happened to:

I had the same thing happen to me with this exact guy, says hes a big trainer from NY he knows all these people blah blah blah... We begin the training after I passed the first round interview with a bald guy with tattoos. He gives what started out to be a group of 20 of us some pretty competitive advice the first day(no lunch provided) with tips and tools and facts and figures the whole nine yards. The second day is at first all role play and smoozhing, then it turns brutal, he's asking tough questions and publically eliminating potential hires and being very rude until there's about 9 of us left. After he booted the first group he "butters" us up with estimations of projected income and how to sell to family and friends in addition to tax advice on how to rip off the goverment. Then he lays on us that the class we are taking cost $250 and basically if we dont pay we dont get hired. If he liked you during his blabbing and paid him the $250 then he wrote a nice recommendation letter to the owner saying "hire these persons".

Now, like I said he did give some pretty solid advice on how to "grow" your clientele. I can definitely see a difference in the info we received versus what the market was doing. He talks alot of bullshit almost like a pimp to a h*o, however after "shopping around" at other dealers, there was definitely a more refined selling process he preached. Those other dealerships better watch out if any one from his training class actually gets hired at the locations he pulls these scams with.

so after that I went through the typical process with the background check and drug test and still didnt get hired(which both came back hireable), after almost 3 weeks of an application process and about $150 bucks worth of gas it was all a scam.

I recently went back to the dealership and brought the contract I signed with "Bob Gaber" and "The G Group" saying that if im not hired or placed after the $250 training session I would be reimbursed fully after 90 days.

The entire staff had changed, no one that was at the training was brought onboard, there were brand new managers and janitorial staff, the front desk girl was new and even the waiting room staff and back office people were new. After about 30 mins of waiting in the room for someone to talk to me, I was informed that everyone had been fired or quit and that an unusual amount of complaining phone calls had been made regarding "Bob Gaber" and "The G Group". So I hope my experience is put on the records as well. We can't continue to allow crooks to get away with things like this!

Right now I'm making a formal complaint to the BBB(Better Business Bureau) about his business practices and the way he dangles jobs in front of individuals who are in a pinch. It is a shame that I have to take it to this level because I actually saw value in what he taught but not even sticking to the terms and conditions of your own business contract is truely negligent and I urge anyone else with the same experience to get in contact with a local representative to have justice serve for the people he's scammed!

One Last Point

AUTHOR: Bob Gaber - (United States of America)

I spoke to the rest of the people who were hired at the dealership and they all appear to be very happy with their working conditions and their employer.  I have said this before in the other report listed, I am very proud of the way I conduct my business.

Anyone can claim anything.  I suppose if you yell loud enough, then maybe someone will believe you. I cannot help that the people complaining were in fact actually either hired or about to be hired and they didn't like retail sales.  Complaining that their potential employer showed up late, without finding out why???  Come on. Unprofessional??  The man has a business to run in multiple locations and if something comes up that has to be handled, what do you expect.  You are applying for the job and if waiting a little bit is an issue, then what is going to happen if you have a client in front of you that you don't like?

If you truly believe that you were scammed, then there are legal ways to handle it.  I am not going anywhere.  You know you won't go to arbitration because you would lose.  If anyone believes you, then all they have to do is not apply to any dealer that I am at.  If someone has something nice to say about someone, it is a twenty second conversation.  If someone has something negative it is a two hour conversation and then you will call back the next day for the follow up.

Rebuttal

One step at a time.  First, you were paying for your education and If I remember correctly, you provided a written testimonial in that regards. Secondly, they were going to hire you, but you chose to leave.  In retail sales, we have to be there for the customers and not the other way around.  I do know that we were playing phone tag, and I did email you in regards to what your issues were, but you chose not to respond.  At no point in time did we ever talk about what was bugging you.  Did you know that there were people in your class who did not have the money and were hired.  I was willing to wait in those particular cases for after the ninety days to get paid from the dealer.  What was preventing you from going to another car dealer and you are just using this as an excuse to get your money back, but the banks sided with me, that was not going to happen.  Did you ever think why the banks and the credit card company sided with me?  Because I was truthful.  Want to go to arbitration?  I doubt it, because you know you would not win there either.  I never lied to you.  You were not happy with that particular circumstance and instead of talking about it, decided to threaten me by saying that if I did not pay you then you would go to ripoff report and say these things.  Sorry, it doesn't fly.  And, if you had any guts, you would use your real name so you could be exposed for who you really are. If you don't like it, then let's go to arbitration.
