Carecredit was notified that we were going to have surgery on our dog's leg. We asked if we could expand our credit limit, as we had never had a late fee, and had always paid at least the minimum due.
They asked for permission to run a credit check, we said no, as we don't want to dock our credit in the least, per our understanding, a simple credit check can dock against your credit score. Because we said no, they said they couldn't expand our limit... which was fine, no big deal.
We decided to go ahead and make a $300 payment against the card on the 20th, then another $300 payment on the 30th, to leave us breathing room for our dog's surgery. We were well under the limit, but we thought we were making the right moves, and being good with our money. Per our understanding, if you stay under 40% of your credit limit, then you're doing wonders for your credit score.
Today is the 31st. Today, our dog had his leg amputated. We ran the Care Credit Card for $300, and we were going to pay the rest of the bill in another way. It was declined. My wife called, and the agent that my wife talked to said, "Your account is closed as of March 21st." My wife asked why. She said, "I don't know, must have been something that came up on your credit report."
Ironic, we told Care Credit we may put a major expense on the account. On THE DAY after we made our first $300 payment, which is over 10 times the minimum due, and we NEVER had a late payment... our account was closed.
Can you imagine what would have happened if we had nothing but carecredit to depend on for our dog's surgery? We paid over $600 total which is 20 times total the amount due any given month... what a slap in the face.
I just want to say to everyone out there... be careful about Care Credit. I don't understand what happened. We are currently in dispute with another questionable charge from Lenscrafters which is on a separate card, which is also GE Money Bank. From what we can figure, this is why Carecredit did this to us. Still doesn't seem right.
When my wife asked when we were to be notified about our account closing, the agent explained that she was sure something would be sent to us eventually, notifying us. Here it is 10 days after they pulled this stunt on us, and we still had no notification.
