I went to the Exxon Station today to get $300 from my MoneyCard so I could pick up my vehicle from the repair shop. The ATM said it was processing but only gave me $20 out of the $300. It said it was adjusting my account to reflect the change but was out of funds and could not complete the transaction. After a few minutes it gave me a receipt that stated request: $300 Dispensed $20 plus the $2.50 fee. I went to a bank to attempt the transaction but it declined. I called GE Money Bank and it said that I have exceeded my daily allowance of ATM transactions but this wasn't so. I faxed them the reciept showing what happened. They tell me it could take up to ten days to fix the problem meanwhile I am out $280 because it took the total out of my account based on the attempted transaction but GE Money Bank refuses to put the $280 back into my account. This is dishonest because I clearly showed them that the atm failed to dispense the requested funds and only gave me $20. When the ATM found it didn't have the money it should have not taken funds from my account and GE Money Bank should be able to refund to my account the $280 right off the bat with the receipt I faxed them. But they refuse.

You have the worst luck with ATM's.  I mean it seems that every time you go to withdraw $300 cash the ATM shorts you money.  With your luck I would probably stay out of Vegas for a while.

So in this case you used your "Company Bank Card" at another bank, and it was credited that night.  Was this the same ATM at the same Gas Station?  Oh it wasn't at the same place.  So you can't compare the two situations.  Perhaps the real issue was with the company that operated that ATM in that they didn't update the "error" quickly.  Something to think about...right?

Observation

AUTHOR: HEJones - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 09, 2011

We used our company bank debit card at another bank and ran into a similar problem where the ATM malfunctioned.  It gave us $160 of the requested $300 last night.  It indicated this on our reciept, however, when we checked online last night we found that the machine automatically credited to our account the difference of the $300 which was $140 at the same time so it shows that banks are more trustworthy in not making one wait a week or two to get something corrected.  I was glad that our bank and this other atm worked where we didn't have to wait any time to correct their machines mistake.

Reclaiming incorrect ATM transactions

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (United Kingdom)

POSTED: Sunday, January 23, 2011

Hello,

Normally a card issuer cannot reverse this type of transaction. In the United Kingdom, I can only assume the procedures are similar in the United States, the provider of the ATM has to be contacted regarding differencing queries and the authorisation has to be reversed by them. This is likely why they state a 10 working day window, as this will be the service level guarantee with the ATM providers. If the bank reverses the transaction on your account without the ATM provider verifying the transaction log of the machine, this will be against card scheme regulations and will result in a claim being made against the bank, and likely fines imposed.

However, it is likely that your query will realistically be resolved more quickly since this is an absolute maximum.

I hope this is of some help.

Danniel...

For this card to work at an atm it would have to be branded visa/mastercard i'd assume so you had enough credit to get that far.

- You apparently have no idea what the difference is between Credit/Debit cards and ATM Cards. ATM Networks are NOT VISA/Master card, they have names such as Star, Cirrus...You can have an ATM Card with just the "Star" logo that will work at an ATM but you can not use it where they only accept "credit" cards such as VISA or Master Card. When you withdraw money from your checking account that is NOT credit, that is just taken off of your available balance.

Using a personal card for business purposes in the method you are is considered illegal in the united states but besides that let's look at the facts assuming that reciept is legitimate.

- Not totally correct. There is no law that says you can't use a personal card for business. BUT if you do you better have spotless records and can account for EVERYTHING. Because if you are audited by the IRS you can believe that they will go through that with a fine tooth comb to see if you claimed any "personal" expenses as business. But I have a feeling that a person who gets this type of cards, pays mechanics in cash may not keep the best records.

To the OP..

I am sure that you "file" taxes every year. The question I am sure that the IRS would love to know is do you declare ALL of your income.

I would have gotten a card from a different bank such as my own bank

- Ummm..exactly what I, an employee(LOL) of GE Moneybank, suggested that you do. Seriously..why didn't you do that in the first place? I guess it is just a case wherea "business owner" goes out of their way to over-complicate their situation for reasons only known to them.

Education for Daniel - Las Vegas regarding these cards

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, January 23, 2011

Daniel,

It appears that you need some education on these cards. Just because they are Visa or Mastercard branded, does NOT mean someone needs to have "credit" to get them.

These are PREPAID DEBIT CARDS, not "credit" cards. These are available at Wal-Mart right at the register and anyone can buy one with no credit check or id. You simply buy it and load it. That's it.

And, there is nothing at all "illegal" about the use of this card, or any personal cardfor business. Please quote the law you are referencing.

Answering Your Comment

AUTHOR: HEJones - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, January 23, 2011

I did not discover the company complaints until after this happened when I came onto Ripoff Reports and typed in their name where I say all the complaints about them. Had I known I would never have given them the time of day. I would have gotten a card from a different bank such as my own bank. I just figured they have Walmart on them so they must be good. I guess Walmart would put their name on toilet paper.

Final Comment

AUTHOR: HEJones - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, January 23, 2011

We have a bank account so that comment you make is useless, we have a business account so that also is not relevant. We thought the use of the card would help us keep employee's from overcharging at our expense. No we file taxes each year and have since we started our business in 1995, we just thought the moneycard would be a good way to control spending. Get over youself. Your comments are useless. I will file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission on Monday morning and with the State Attorney General so those who work for GE Money Bank making rude comments to us won't wash as we will have the final say. I won't rest until this bank refunds our money.

Trying to be helpful

AUTHOR: Daniel - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, January 23, 2011

Im not sure why so many people have posted negative things here. It's against the rules of the site and takes away from those trying to use the site for legitimate purposes.

For this card to work at an atm it would have to be branded visa/mastercard i'd assume so you had enough credit to get that far. Using a personal card for business purposes in the method you are is considered illegal in the united states but besides that let's look at the facts assuming that reciept is legitimate.

It was 10 in the morning on a Friday. Atm's do not operate themselves so some local bank had to be in charge of the atm unless atm's are different in your state. Usually the bank in charge is listed on or around the atm so all you needed to do was contact the bank in charge of the atm or asked the station for help.

ATM errors aren't uncommon. I once used my atm card at the same bank it was issued at (debit card) to withdrawal cash. For whatever reason the machine made a mistake and I got the money but it was never deducted from my checking account. Usually debit card atm transactions post immediately. I gave the issue until the weekend was over which may have been a day or two and it still never showed up in my account. Being the honest person I am and assuming they were going to catch it anyhow I told the bank about it and asked tem if they wanted my reciept. To my surprise the bank just immediately took the money from the account and said "yeah we would of caught it".

Would they of? What if I was insane and there never was a transaction? They didn't want the reciept.

Now those of you that think there is nothing wrong with my described issue just wait until a bank hits you with an overdraft for money you never spent. It's in pretty much everyones banking agreement that a bank can and in most cases will charge an overdraft fee for items that do not overdraw your account. In the world of credit cards a merchant can only process a transaction monday-friday excluding holidays. These transactions are usually processed once a business day in what's called a batch. So if I have a pending deposit at the bank with funds that will be released on monday and I somehow manage to overdraw my checking account on a sunday using my debit card even though those funds never got transferred anywhere (couldn't until at least monday/tuesday) the banks will probably all charge you fees even if your deposit that posted on Monday was in excess of what you spent. Their excuse would be the check you deposited could bounce. Well if the check bounces I could see them charging you the nsf's.

I believe the banks also reserve the right to go back and overdraft accounts for check dates. Im not 100% sure but I believe if you write a check dated for 1/14 and the merchant cashes it on 1/17 the bank could go back and if you didn't have the money in your account on the 14th but did on the 17th actually still charge you an overdraft.

Get a Reality Check

AUTHOR: HEJones - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, January 23, 2011

Look this happened, if you can't offer constructive help stay the hell out of it. It happened and we thought using the card with a dollar amount on it for fuel and other onroad expenseswould be a good idea for employees. It's our business and unless you have useful help I don't need your snide comments. I have proof it happened. The Marks Exxon employees knows it happened. So I don't need your comments calling me names or questioning if it happened, IT HAPPENED. I HAVE THE RECEIPT THAT CAME FROM THE ATM Machine. GET A LIFE LOSERS as it did take place as I said. IT appears you have nothing better to do then to attack victims of corporations when they have a problem with a service. So either you work for GE Money Bank and are trying to place the blame with the victim or your just a loser yourselves who have nothing better to do with your time then harrass people. Either way mind your own business. If you work for GE Money Bank I will be filing an FTC complaint on Monday about this issue. Also will be calling the Attorney General in the State GE Money Bank is located.

Myself and MANY others HAVE been ripped off by ATM machines...

AUTHOR: Ronny g - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, January 23, 2011

Mine was with a WACHOVIA visa used at a WELLS FARGO ATM, which had a Wachovia logo on it. Dispensed ZERO and charged my account 300 bucks. Took 30 days to clear it up after the extensive "investigation" indeed concluded that I am not a bank robber or criminal and put MY money back into the account. Just imagine what I would have been subject to if I borrowed/stole/mistakingly took the banks money for 30 days against their will and without authorization...just imagine for a second....one Mississippi...okay.. you get the point I hope.. The report should still be in this website unless they lie and deleted it which they say they do not do...yea okay...

Certainly Wachovia visa is not a sub prime card?

This report has nothing to do with sub prime...it has to do with a machine malfunction and it was apparent by the receipt that only $20.00 was dispensed but the bank took out $300.00 and told this customer to go pound sand for 30 days. Blatant ripoff and lack of professionalism and customer care... and not to mention just plain old lack of common decency. 100% complaint worthy on this site in every way.

Not the true story

AUTHOR: coast - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, January 22, 2011

There are a few things wrong with this review. You claim the MoneyCard is for employees but you were using it. Why didn't you use the card at the auto repair shop? Why not use a credit or debit card? Is it possibly because your credit is so poor you can't get a checking account? The IRS would prefer you use a business account. Or, maybe you are concealing income from the IRS?

A business owner can get a credit card account and distribute cards to employees with a cap on the amount the employee can charge on the card--unless the business owner has lousy credit.

Something is Amiss

AUTHOR: HEJones - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, January 22, 2011

Could it be you work for GE Money Bank and trying to make them look innocent in this. Could it be maybe you are an Executive with this crooked company who instead of doing the honorable thing and tracing the Authorization number back to it's source to find out if this happened you are trying to justify them doing nothing and maybe getting a cut for yourself. It seems odd that you defend these scumbags. I am not the only person who has issues with them but it seems you have nothing better to do then to sit at your computer trying to defend a company who has questionable business practices.

Never heard of an ATM shorting anyone

AUTHOR: Steven - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 22, 2011

From what I have seen if an ATM is asked to process more than it can the whole transaction is stopped. If an ATM has only 200 dollars in it and you request 250 you don't get 200 hundred get something that you requested 250 but only got 200. You get a message saying the transaction cannot be processed.

Maybe the MoneyCard only had 20 dollars on it and you should find out why.

Something is off

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 22, 2011

These cards cater to people who can not get "real" bank accounts or credit cards. There should be no reason why you need this if you have a regular account. If you are worried about limiting exposure your bank should be able to do that. Even if it ends up being a second account it would be less fees and hassles as long as you MANAGE the account.

Also most mechanics take debit and credit cards so why did you need to withdraw the cash? With a "cash" deal and this type of card it seems as if you are trying to hide some money.

But let's say the ATM did only issue 20. Again this is a card for people who can not get a regular account. They are not going to give anyone the benefit of the doubt, Not that a regular bank would either. A 5th grader with a simple photo editing software could make the receipt exactly like that in about 2 minutes. So GE has to confirm with the ATM owner this happened. Inconvenient yes..but if you are correct you should eventually get it back.

The other possibility is that your card does have a daily limit and 300 would be common. So if you went to the bank and requested anything over 177.50 it would put you over because of the 22.50 that was deducted and would be declined. This amount of course would be less if you did any other transactions.

TO THE LOSER CALLING ME A LOSER

AUTHOR: HEJones - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, January 22, 2011

For your information we use the card while out on service calls for techs for the business we own so they don't have to use our debt card for our company bank account for gas and other items which might be needed on work being performed. We have a personal bank account which we don't use for work related purposes. The vehicle we needed to pick up was our work van which had transmission work performed. So before you call someone a loser get your facts straight you moron. If you can't offer viable solutions stay out of the conversation.

Why not just get a REAL bank account with a REAL debit card?

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 22, 2011

The solution here is SO SIMPLE!

Just stop being a LOSER, and using services designed for LOSERS.

Get a REAL checking account with a REAL debit card, and/or get a CREDIT CARD!

You lose when you deal with services designed to serve losers.

Stop being a loser.

Problem solved.

Update

AUTHOR: HEJones - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, January 22, 2011

Here is proof that both GE Money Bank and this ATM ripped me off. I called GE Money Bank again and have been told they could tie up this money for up to 30 days while they investigate this transaction. The truth of this being if they can tie it up that long I might forget about it and let them keep my $280 dollars. Fat chance on that happening.
