After bad service received for "roadside assistance" I cancelled my membership to the GE Motor Club, gotten through AARP Motoring Plan. Membership was cancelled in 2007. They had my credit card information on file through Discover, and were "autodrawing" the fee. I had informed Discover not to pay any further as I had cancelled the account with GE Motor Plan. In March,2010 I was billed again, and after many phone calls to reach the correct billing department, I got my refund.

However, when I called GE Motor Club I told them to make a specific note in my account, that I had cancelled my membership and to stop billing me further. For a couple of years I was not billed, and now, today,April 8,2011 I got my statement from Discover showing a charge for $89.00 for services

Tried calling the number indicated on the statement beside the billing auto club, - but got a run-around and was given multiple numbers to call, and each one passed me on to another number. I called each number with no results..  then in sheer desperation called my Discover Credit Card company to dispute the charge. They have initiated an inquiry and have "temporarily" given me a refund - and they will make inquiries and try to get the money credited back to my account.

Membership with AARP has been a great disappointment. Even after I cancelled my membership with them, I have been getting "renewal" notices which I declined each time and kept getting notices and offers for other insurances: life, Medicare, Prescription plans etc. I had to make a lot of phone calls to AARP to find the proper department at which I could call the appropriate person to cancel my membership and to remove me from their mailing list. Luckily I was successfull.

Whether it is AARP or GE Motor Plan, and SFM-SNAC Auto Club (which I failed to indicate earlier) for roadside assistance, their service is terrible and the staff manning their phones don't care a d**n to help. They say they have taken care of my request to cancel, but again I receive "renewal" notices.  Is this harassment or what? I'm a Senior Citizen and can do without all this crap and announcements. I've got better things to do than to plead my case with these non-caring, couldn't-care-less attitudes that I have had the displeasure of dealing with these companies.
