Bought a car 2 weeks ago.  I was very transparent with my finances, foreclosure, income, expenses etc.  They asked me to come in to sign more papers.  I went back thinking I missed a few signatures, but they ended up taking my car back because they realized they MADE a mistake.  So they made me leave the car or sign for a higher payment.  They did not offer to ride me back home but I insisted.  I have so much more to tell.

This is called the Spot Delivery Scam and has been around for a long time...

AUTHOR: FloridaNative - ()

POSTED: Saturday, April 19, 2014

This is exactly how the spot delivery scam works: you sign a contract for $X and your payment is $Y over a certain term, say 60 months. The dealership F&I guy calls you a week or two later to come in a sign a few more papers due to "an error".  It isn't an error. It is a deliberate ploy to get more money from you and others after the sale. When you get there, they either want more money down or to increase the rate or extend the term or any combination of the preceeding.  It is a way to lock you into a puchase by embarrassing you into signing new terms. This is also called the "Sign and Drive" scam. This particular scam has been around for many, many years...at least the last two decades.

Search for it online and you will read many horror stories.

To avoid it in the future:  get your financing with a credit union before even shopping for a vehicle. Don't finance with the dealer at all. Credit unions don't change the terms after you have signed.
