Despite their slogan "No event is TOO BIG or TOO SMALL" and their stated willingness to cater to weddings:
"A special celebration should be a memorable experience for you and your guests. GI Joes Good Eats provides exactly the inspiration and services you need. Whether an original buffet for a family birthday or a large party, we ensure the success of your celebration reliably, creatively and completely in accordance with your wishes."
"At GI Joes Good Eats, we are aware that catering is the key to a successful event. Our expert Chefs and staff pay the utmost attention to every detail. Whether a traditional menu or a personalized special order, we would be delighted to help you find culinary delights for a memorable moment. Inspired dishes, an impeccable presentation and great service are the three things we strive to achieve for any event."
It took four more days of email tag, explaining that I was looking for Pasta and BBQ and was open to any suggestions they had, to finally get told that they lacked the experience to serve this for my reception. Nor could they offer any alternatives and instead suggested an out-of-business competitor instead.
Honestly, if it weren't for the back and forth over the week, (I was later told by one of the owners "We typically do not check our email for days at a time"), I probably wouldn't have been so upset and filed a rip-off report, but if you're having a wedding, anniversary, corporate meeting, birthday or other special event I would recommend steering clear of this company as they are highly unprofessional and inexperienced, and their website is completely misleading and does not represent the cuisine you are paying for.
I would NEVER recommend this catering company to anyone.

With catering you find out there is a problem long after you've paid for it, during your special event, when your guests show up. There's nothing wrong with catering picnic food, there's plenty of demand, but showing pictures of caviar on your website is misleading and unethical. Imagine having an event catered by a company showing those pictures on their website, and having pasta salad, fried chicken and hotdogs show up instead. Just because that person didn't get stuck paying a non-refundable deposit doesn't mean the next person will be as lucky.
I'd rather know upfront that a company is being deceptive as part of the selection process, not after several days of correspondence. Best case, they waste my time, worst case I'm stuck with a contract with a company that openly lies about its products and how can you feel comfortable paying hundreds or thousands of dollars to a company that can't even be honest with you?
Definitely a rip-off.
I don't see where you were ripped off. They never took any of your money and never promised you anything.
