GRACE SALON SPA IN MT PLEASANT SOUTH CAROLINA IS A TOTAL JOKE. I FIRST JUST WENT NOW AND AGAIN FOR A TRIM OF MY VERY LONG HAIR. I TOOK CARE OF MY OWN COLOR.
HOWEVER, I LATER DECIDED TO LET THEM HANDLE THE COLOR BECAUSE IT WAS GETTING TO BE TOO MUCH OF A JOB FOR ME WITH THE EXTREME LENGTH.I WANTED LIGHT BROWN HAIR.
FROM MY NATURAL DARK BROWN HAIR.

I BROUGHT IN 2 PICS FOR THE STYLIST TO LOOK AT TO KNOW FOR CERTAIN WHAT MY GOAL WAS. FIRST I JUST HAD THEM DO JUST A ROOT TOUCH UP. I COULD NOT TELL ANY CHANGE IN COLOR WHATSOEVER. I REALLY WAS, OBVIOUSLY, NOT IMPRESSED.
AND FOR THIS I PAID OVER $100 DOLLARS FOR.
NOT HAPPY WITH THAT-

I TRIED TO FIX THE ROOT COLOR MYSELF- AND ALTOGETHER GOT THE OVERALL COLOR WRONG, AND WENT TO THEM TO FIX THE WHOLE OF THE COLOR. I MENTIONED "HIGHLIGHTS" ALONG WITH AN OVERALL BASE COLOR LIGHTENING UP. AGAIN, I JUST WANTED IT TO BE A LIGHT BROWN HAIR. WITH MAYBE SOME ADDED HIGHLIGHTS. THINKING THAT THEY WOULD FIRST FIX THE BASE COLOR PROBLEM, THEN MAYBE ADD SOME HIGHLIGHTS ACCORDING TO MY PREFERENCES.

I GOT A HAIRSTYLIST NAMED, "SHIRLEY", AND SHE DID NOTHING BUT 2 PROCESSES OF FOIL HIGHLIGHTS TO ME.
THIS COST ME OVER $200 DOLLARS ALTOGETHER.
MY HAIR LOOKED LIKE A BABY-CHICK. AND SHE SAID WE WERE FINISHED. MY LOOK WAS COMPLETE. AND I TOLD HER THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANTED. AND THAT I THOUGHT I LOOKED LIKE A SKUNK. BECAUSE THE LIGHT PART OF MY HAIR WAS ENTIRELY TOO LIGHT, AND THE DARK REMAINING PART OF MY HAIR WAS ENTIRELY TOO DARK. SO BETWEEN THE 2 CONTRASTS-
I, IN ALL FACT, LOOKED EXACTLY LIKE A SKUNK.
SHE SAID SHE WOULD FIX IT FREE-OF-CHARGE STARTING A WHOLE WEEK OUT FROM THAT VERY DAY.

HOW WONDERFUL I NOW HAVE TO WAIT A WEEK FOR YOUR MISTAKES, THAT YOU CHARGED ME FOR...

HERE I AM LOOKING ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS FOR ALMOST THE ENTIRE MONTH OF AUGUST 2008 (FUN SUMMER-TIME, RIGHT?)
ALL THIS TIME WAITING ON HER TO FINALLY JUST DO WHAT I HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR, SHOWING HER IN PICTURES,
AND PAYING DEARLY FOR (OVER $300 DOLLARS-WORTH ALL ALTOGETHER).

BUT, ALSO, THE OVERALL HEALTH OF MY HAIR HAS BEEN IRREPAIRABLY DAMAGED FROM THE DOUBLE-FOIL PROCESS THIS SALON AND "SHIRLEY" PERFORMED ON ME. THIS PROCESS SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE TO ME. LET ALONE TWICE.

"SHIRLEY" DID NOT CARE FOR ME AS SHE SHOULD HAVE,
AND VERY REGRETABLY OFFERED HER SERVICES TO ME "FREE-OF-CHARGE" TO FIX THE UTTER MESS SHE HAS MADE OF MY BEAUTIFUL HAIR.

I HONESTLY DO NOT WANT HER HANDS COMING AT ME AT ANY PRICE. I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO FAITH IN HER WHATSOEVER ANY LONGER. OBVIOUSLY SO. NOR DO I EVEN WANT TO GO TO ANOTHER STYLIST THERE AT THE SAME SALON TO TRY AND FIX THIS. EVEN THOUGH THIS IS WHAT I WAS PROMISED AFTER COMPLAINING TO MANAGEMENT.

I HAVE NO FAITH IN ANYONE AT GRACE SALON SPA ANYMORE.
I WOULD NOT TAKE A DEAD CAT TO GRACE SALON SPA.

MY HAIR IS NOW IN THE HANDS OF AN EXPERT COLORIST WHO I FINALLY HAVE CONFIDENCE IN. THE UTTER MESS THAT GRACE SALON SPA MADE OF MY HAIR IS GOING TO BE FIXED COMPLETELY.

I HOWEVER WILL NEVER HAVE FAITH, TRUST, OR BUSINESS WITH GRACE SALON SPA EVER AGAIN.

I WOULD RECOMMEND TO YOU THAT YOU NEVER VISIT OR THINK OF GRACE SALON SPA IN MT PLEASANT SOUTH CAROLINA.

DO NOT PUT YOUR PRECIOUS, LOVELY HAIR IN THE HANDS OF "SHIRLEY". AT ANY SALON. AND DO NOT PUT YOUR PRECIOUS, LOVELY HAIR IN THE HANDS OF GRACE SALON SPA IN MT PLEASANT SOUTH CAROLINA.

WHEN I FIRST ASKED GRACE SALON SPA FOR A REFUND. I WAS FLATLY DENIED. I THEN CALLED THE AVEDA CORPORATE OFFICE SINCE GRACE IS AN AVEDA SALON. THEN AND ONLY THEN DID GRACE SALON SPA GIVE ME MY REFUND OF 300 DOLLARS. DO NOT GO TO GRACE SALON SPA.

I do not know Shirley or the salon. In fact I do not live in South Carolina. One thing that should be clear is that, if somebody has previously colored their hair dark, it is impossible to make your hair a lighter color without the use of bleach, which is why Shirley highlighted your hair. In other words, you can't just put a lighter color on top. That could actually potentially make it darker than before. I would assume that as an experienced stylist, she would have let you know the damage that bleach does to your hair, and I am sure that she informed you prior to the service that highlighting is all she could have done, as well as what the price would have been. This service is called a corrective color due to the processes involved, and therefore more expensive. Also, since it was a corrective color, the outcome is not guaranteed since there are previous tones/color in the hair. Also, if the hair had previously been colored root to tip numerous times, the hair was already damaged, and the bleach was the straw that broke the camel's back.

The truth is, in order for her to have gotten your hair to be all over the same lighter color, she would have had to bleach out ALL of your hair (maybe twice, depending on how dark it was), then deposit another color on top, then possibly tone it again...potentially causing A LOT more damage than just the highlighting. Maybe there was some sort of mis-communication during the consultation prior to the service, but it seems as if what she did COULD have been the best case scenario.

Having said that, she shouldn't have been satisfied to let you leave unsatisfied. The fact that the salon gave you a full refund says a lot about the character of its management.

I have had multiple interactions with "Shirley" as has my entire family.We have NEVER had an issue.  This is not due to an indolent approach to our appearance.  It is because "Shirley" does excellent, high quality work.  I would store the above complaint in the "some people are never satisfied" file.

I totally disagree with the poster of this entry. I have gone to Shirley since 2002, and she has always done an amazing job with my hair. I have had highlights in the past, and she always did them to perfection. Also, everytime I've left the salon after she's cut my hair, I feel like a million bucks. Shirley did my hair for my bridal portrait and my wedding, and she even attended my reception to make sure my bobby pins stayed in place from all the dancing. She is a truly fabulous stylist and I have sent many friends as well as my mom to her over the years. I am sorry this person had a bad experience, but perhaps the multiply dye-jobs just left the hair too over-processed to take the color correctly.

Shirley at Grace Salon is AWESOME!

I TOTALLY disagree with the comments about "shirley" from an upset patron at Grace Salon and Spa in Mt. Pleasant, SC. First of all, I will start by saying that Shirley has been my hair stylist for 7 years. I have NEVER recieved a bad cut or color on my hair and I have had SEVERAL different cuts and colors. Her professional opinion means everything to me. I trust her and anything she wants to do to my hair. Somedays I tell her exactly what I want and she creates it perfectly, other days I tell her to do whatever she wants and even then it ends up looking beautiful. I have had short spiky red hair to long blonde hair. Whatever the style is at the time it what she creates. She is not only a stylist but an artist! It is so amazing to me the things she creates. It is an art. She is gifted. She is meant to be a stylist. Its in her blood! Not only has she been my personal stylist, I have referred several clients to her and have recieved MANY thanks for doing so. The clients I have reffered to her STILL go to her! My husband included. Not only is she AMAZING at her job, she is one of the nicest and most genuine people I have EVER met. I would trust her blindfolded. I do feel bad that a bad experience was had and that lots of money was spent. There is only so much one can do with someones hair.... after all, she is a beautician, not a magician!!!! I love Shirley!

I HIGHLY disagree with the comments posted about the salon and specifically the hair stylist. In all my travels and ventures, I've never met a more educated and caring hair stylist. Grace Salon is lucky to have such a person working for them. I'm sorry for your pain, but did you REALLY listen to the stylist?? Changing color from one extreme (very dark) to another (blonde or light brown) is a long, complex process for someone with really long hair as you stated you have. The instructions for care must be adhered to! Trying to remedy the problem yourself as you stated is a definite no-no (unless you are an experienced color stylist) and ANY stylist will tell you this. It seems you did more damage yourself by trying to fix the problem rather than having some patience and working with a stylist.

Again, I'm empathetic to your dilemma. But regardless of what you say, I will keep going to Grace and to see Shirley, as will all of my friends who have thanked me on a number of occasions for the recommendation. Her advice, enthusiasm and overall professional nature make me look forward to getting my hair styled every month! If more people were like her, the world would definitely be a better place!
