GRAND MAYAN VIDA 2013 MAYAN PALACE RESORT SCAM, STAY AWAY!! RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO QUINTANA ROO Mexico
This is their timeshare scam in detail as of July 2013. If you attend the timeshare presentation they will take off $300 dollars off your total bill plus discounts on tours and breakfast is included (stay away!!). First it will never take 90 minutes like they say. After breakfast they will take you into this cold conference room. Once there they will tell you this time share does not have any maintenance fees but there is a fee, anywhere from $500 studio to $686 one bedroom every time you are going to use a week. They will tell you the deposit is nonrefundable but not true YOU HAVE 5 DAYS UNDER MEXICAN LAW to cancel the contract. Even then there are complaints online of people still trying to cancel the contract while still at the resort and they are given the run around. In my case, my sales person Begona, never told me I had 5 days to cancel. My deposit was taken.
The sales pitch: sales will tell you that you can rent your weeks with 5 companies they refer on a flyer and the rental of your weeks will provide $1000 net to you so the timeshare pays for itsef. I called the 2 US based companies, One, Vacation time company, is san diego and since I live here I went to look at the address and its a PO BOX not an office. What's the problem you ask? well if this company doesn't rent your week or you have a complaint how do you get a hold of this person. The other company is rated "F" by the better business bureau and its based out of Miami but the rentals are done in Mexico its got a low rating because of complaints. Sales will also tell you if you don't want your week you can bank it with advantage vida exchange and they will reimburse your maintenance fee.
Not true, they will only give you cash back if your week passes the validation process which has a lot of variables for approval. So you will not get your money from advantage either. If you have a timeshare already, they will tell you how much its worth and work it into the deal. Afterwards a company called "equity acquisitions" will call you and try to either have you sign the deed over to them or resale the timeshare back to you for what started at $3000 dollars then went down to $1500 dollars. All these companies are tied in together on this scam. The companies referred for rental have a one time fee of $300-500 dollars which you will never get back (more money) and the "E acquisitions" will try to sell you back your old timeshare (more money)
I chose to find my own financing and was told I had until 9/9/13 to complete the purchase or I can cancel any time before then. I was assured of this not only by my sales person Begona, but by many customer service representatatives one of them named Bill from Nuevo Vallarta. Further more, I was assured if I canceled before 9/9/13 it would not affect my credit report here in the US. When I called to cancel within the timeframe I was told I will be contacted by the sales office from Cancun directly. I informed Petra Beck of my intent to cancel because of financial reasons and because I no longer trusted their brand due to all the ommissions and misrepresentations from the sales agent.
It was in one of her emails that I learned I had 5 days to cancel under Mexican Law, I made her aware I was never told that. We went back and forth and they refuse to cancel the contract and return my deposit of $6848 dollars inspite of all the untruths told by their sales representative. I am currently disputing the charges with my credit cards. I have submitted a complaint with PROFECO the mexican consumer agency, a complaint to the Mexican consulate in San Diego, the California attorney general and the federal consumer trade commissions. I am not the only one so I will add on to the list of misguided US consumers with this Mexican brand of hotels.
I don't understand why they have to resort to all these misrepresentations and scam tactics. They have beautiful hotels but they don't understand the value of "TRUST" in a brand and good customer service. Trust is everything in business. If you want a timeshare go for the well known reputable hotel chains stay away from this one!!!!
