I lived in Gables Montecito from June 2009- March 2010. While a tenant, I had very few issues. Most of my issues were resolved in a timely manner. It was upon ending my lease that the real problems began. I went to the main office to let them know I would not be renewing my lease. I told them my move out date and explained that I had painted the walls and asked to purchase their paint to repaint the walls. At this time they explained that I could leave the walls and they would deduct the cost from my security deposit. I thought this was a great deal and agreed. I moved out at the end of March and thought everything was copacetic. Just over a month later, I received a bill for over $3000 for all sorts of asinine charges. Other than the painted walls, I left my apartment in immaculate shape. The worst part is I never heard from Gables themselves, they sent all of this to a collection agency who had no idea what the charges were for, only that they needed to collect. I would not recommend living here to my worst enemy. Looks can be deceiving and although the community is well maintained, they will scam the heck out of you upon your departure.
