Garage Door Doctor ruined my life!!! Think I'm exaggerating? Listen...

In October of 2013 I accepted a job from Mr. Brummond. If you look at the other reviews on google you will see that "Dennis" is mentioned a few times. That is me. I am a garage door service technician with 10 years of experience. I moved my wife and three children (our youngest is only 10 months old) to Charlotte based on the word of Mr. Brummond; a word he is all too willing to break.. We sold almost all of our possessions and moved from Florida, eager to start a new life in beautiful South Carolina, right on the border near Charlotte, feeling totally assured that we would do fine here financially. My wife and kids love it here and the kids fit right in to their new schools and everyone was so welcoming!

Mr. Brummond told me multiple times in my interview that my asking salary would be a "piece of cake" to earn and I could easily expect to make more than even that! I was their top biller right away. I put my all into my job and worked almost 70 hours a week! I have a lot of sales experience and easily reached all of their sales goals. Yet, after waiting a full three weeks to be paid, my first paycheck was more than $500 less than what we'd discussed! All of a sudden I couldn't pay my rent and had to shamefully borrow money from him to keep my wife and kids from being tossed out on the streets!

Mr. Brummond assured me it would get better, that despite working 70 hours a week and being their top biller I was in the middle of a "learning curve" and I would eventually get faster and sell more. Keep in mind again, I have 10 years of experience, this isn't my first rodeo and I've worked for 2 of the best companies in Florida!! I put my faith into the "nice guy" persona Mr. Brummond showed me and kept working, telling my wife it would get better  as she reminded me of the bills we needed to pay and the food we needed.

My next check was almost worse, considering I outsold, outworked and outperformed all of his other techs AGAIN! I brought my concerns up to Mr. Brummond's second in command and was told to "go on welfare" to compensate the money he was stealing from me! Imagine the nerve of this guy to tell me that, when I'd given him 70 hours a week of missed dinners, missed time with my kids, missed weekends, missed sleep! Now he expects the good citizens of South Carolina to support my family when I'm working like a dog?

Now, you may be saying, if you're cynical, "well, if he underpays his employees he must pass the savings on to his customers." You would be wrong there. Mr. Brummond's hobby is buying exotic sports cars while demanding that employees compensate their income's on the backs of the good, decent folk of South and North Carolina (I learned he says that to all the disgruntled, lied to employees)! His prices arent any less than any other local company, just so you know that upfront. No bargains here. None of his employees are happy and they're on the verge of walking out because they cant feed their families anymore! In an act of desperation my wife sent a pleading email to him begging him to honor his agreement with me. He ignored her totally.

The final straw was today when on my one day off (a Sunday) he called to tell me there was an emergency service call. I was very disappointed, since I'd worked like a slave all week from 7am to almost 8pm for the past 2 weeks, but I was willing to go to the job. I called Mr. Brummond before the service call to speak with him yet again about my pay and to ask him if he read my wife's email. His first words were, "didnt J____ give you the number to social services?"

Again, flabbergasted, I reminded Mr. Brummond of his word to me in our interview about my salary, that I didnt come here to mooch off the state!  A workman is worth his wages! If he paid me what we originally agreed on I would have NO NEED for welfare! Ive never gone on welfare in my life! He began to shout and talk over me, telling me that it "wasnt going to happen" and was I going on this call or not?! I tried to reason with the man to no avail. Eventually he just told me to return the work truck to the shop, that I was fired!

After cleaning out my truck I started the drive to Charlotte, worried about the future of my family. When I arrived at the shop and Mr. Brummond was not there. I called him and he told me to "wait" that he wanted me to go through an inventory of the truck to make sure I didnt "steal" anything. I reminded Mr. Brummond that I am a good, honest Christian and would never steal from him!! That I wasn't a thief like him! With my infant son crying in the backseat I left after my wife shouted into the phone "you've stolen enough time from him without paying him!"

He then began to harass me in text messages about how "I owed him money" for helping me to get here (he lent me $1000 to get my apartment here, plus $200 to avoid eviction when my first check was pitifully short) and I told him to keep my last check (2 weeks of work) he said, "that wont be enough buddy!" Does that tell you anything? 70 hours a week x 2 isnt enough to cover that debt?? That must mean I was making just over $8 an hour all that time (a ridiculous salary for a skilled technician!) He then called me a "little boy" and a "coward" via text message and pretty much threatened me about the loan saying, "now you get to see the big boys play! Pay up!"

I am now lost in a new place, no friends or family here with no job and 4 mouths to feed. All due to the greed of Mark Brummond, the owner of Garage Door Doctor of Charlotte. Not only do I have the pressure of finding a new job I also have the oppression of this "loan" over my head! I am very worried he will retaliate against my family!

Do not do business with this man. If you read other reviews on this and other sites (before the glowing reviews for me)  you will see that customers have found him rude and abusive and arrogant. Until today I never saw that side of him...but greed does funny things to people.
