purchased a gateway computer way back in july/aug of 2001...thought it was a cool computer i forked out just about 2200 dollars for this notebook i believe it is a gateway 5300 series solo notebook computer... i noticed little things wrong with my computer just a few months after i had it...i am good working with computers, but not necc. w/the parts and inside components and etc....but i overlooked the little things assuming it was

i am sure no big deal as my computer was too new for something to truly be wrong...but hindsight is 20/20 and i figured out that my computer was probably never functioning up to par in the first place...i noticed my computer would freeze up...but as time passed it seemed to get worse and worse and i removed programs and did a defragmentation on computer and all...nothing worked...and i noticed when i would turn on my computer the fan/cooling sys. was a bit loud, but it gradually got worse...and i noticed some glitches when i would use my removable drives...i.e. my dvd rom drive would not work on the first try or two i thoight it maybe was not in the drive well...

of course that as well as my other drives do not work at all now and the sys. does not even recognize then when the are put in the computer(they are all removeable drives)...to catch up thr the years I sent my computer in on 4 6 04 after calling the tech support 800# and explaing what the deal was w/my computer...it gets really ht it cus off by itself and horrible noise appears to be coming from cooling sys. /fan and i could not access anything on my computer perm. freeze up no access to anything not even desktop and i tried sys. restore on my computer week or so previously to no vail...still issues w/my computer..the little things i was so sure could be nothing were something that only got worse, this, that means i had a lemon of a computer almost from the start.

i sent my computer in 4 6 04 after i had to pay 50 bucks to pay for a empty box they provide to send it back in and i mention the problems(see above) as well as the removable driver issue which i had called in about a month or so previously that still was not fixed and the tech support guy at that time said he send me a new dvd rom drive and it should be fine still was not and i asked him at that time if this does not work what next he said he did not want to think about it and he never listened to the fact the other drives did not work/or function @ that time either and he said he did and does not want to think about what else it could be and if the new drive does not work he does not know what it could be really...

of course i just recv. my computer back for the major fixes i had done on 4 6 04 when i sent it in and i get my computer back and most things were fixed but no drives still work so again I will need to send my laptop back to gateway for repair and have no computer access or limited access and i am looking for jobs and i was laid off from my company back in nov 2003 and my comouter now is more important than ever and i recv. my computer back basically e/no programs loaded no excel or word or powerpoint loaded and of course the back cd rom and so forth do not work b/c the drives are not being read/acknowledged so that i can possibly reinstall any of it...

i had no adbe on my sys basically nothing...and i have to send a lot of my resumes to companies as a ms word attachment these items are crucial for them to reload i do not see why they cannot put those thing back onto my system asap...

today is 4 19 04 and i am going to mail my laptop off again and of course tech people do not know why all the drivers and the non readability issues were not hadled as it was in the sys. noted whn i sent computer to them on 4 6 04 making the compalint and all the other items mostly got fixed(MY COMPUTER IS STILL STICKING AND VERY SLOW AND STILL FREEZES AND ETC) I AM NOT SURE HOW MUCH WAS TRULY FIXED and i get a lot of blue screens with o/s errors and msg. and so forth and so u tell me if it was truly fixed does not seem like my motherboard was replaced although the hot cooling sys. gone bad can effect all other internal componenets

i believe i need a completely new hard drive which they did not replace they just did like a flush out or reprogram,but i think it needs to have a completley new one put in take old one completely out/remove...and i think i need some drivers reinstalled and i think the internal mechanism in my computer are not all being looked at or considered b/c i thin k it is an internal component issue as to why my computer does not read any of my removable drives (ie floppy dvd cd cdburner drives)...

they (tech support) seem lazy and disconcerned w/issues both people i talked with in tech support basically seem like you are bothering them when u ask them a question or like they are too tired to really help you, but i decided they are not very knowlegable and they just do not care i think i could work in tech support and it dept. and do a better job than gateway currently does at least i would be more compassionate!

I spent a pretty penny on my computer (money is very hard to come by these days) and i just want a completely new computer just not gateway i will purchase my own and they can refund me my $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ i do have a little bit of my warranty left to replace various parts and etc till end of july of this year (2004)...so i think they are f***ing up in hopes my little bit of warranty lapses and then they will be able to assist me w/a computer where everything comes with a chrg.

GATEWAY SUCKS and I AM SO DISAPPOINTED w/the quality of my laptop and the lack of power it has and all the issues...I think they knew my computer was a lemon...i do not want any more gateways only dell or hp or some other computers have to be more dependable and efficient than any of these gateway...they have pretty pkgs, but "gateway to hell"internal/component sys.

I feel as if I have been violated or secretly F&*^%d and did not really know it...like they slipped me a roofie and slipped me a lemon computer that was a ticking bomb just waiting to explode which basically it has....I wanna know if anyone has a tel# to the pre/ceo of gateway or his email address i would love to talk to mr. inouye or whatever his name is....

Any Gateway computer product that is out of original warranty is referred to the MPC corp. for software and hardware support. That company is in bankruptcy. No one answers the phone. There's nobody there. You will punish yourself when getting extended support if you buy gateway. I just needed motherboard specifications to find out what my lap top upgrades are. I cannot get that info. There is just a redundant array of recordings on the phone. The local computer repair shop can only find out by trial and error what my options are. This is crazy. And I've built computers! If you are out of warranty, have fun.
There are much better companies out there that offer lifelong support for your computer.
This is not the one. You don't need this after warranty hassle.
