at its best!

Being unemployed for almost a year, I was anxious to try to save money on my car insurance so I started conducting quotes to replace State Farm Insurance (which I had had for about 4years).  Geico quoted me the same exact coverages as state farm, but $50 less a month.  Naturally I switched.  I hhad Geico previously but could not remember why I discontinued there services...Now I remember.  After a month into my policy I receive an email that they have been attempting to contact me.

They have my phone numbers, yet I have never received a call. Now I find out, they have "reveiwed" my policy and my policy is going to increase from $166/month to $366.63.  talk about SHOCK!  Evidently there "reporting" failed to show a car accident from 2009. So basically, they used "bait and switch" tack ticks to lure me into switching companies to screw me.  Whatever "report" they are using to quote customers is obviously flawed.  I am sure I am not the only customer who has experienced this.  I have called Geico directly who are at best unapologetic.  Back to State Farm I go...but not before all my friends, facebook and twitter all know what crooks Geico are!

#1 Consumer Suggestion

why is the funny little geico lizard so nosy???

AUTHOR: Mr Ed - (USA)

Hey Ed maybe you might enlighten me as to why if I buy insurance for the" funny" little lizard Company they will call with in 1 month and want to know who everyone is that lives or has lived at my address & who they have car insurance with? & they expect me to ether tell them or find out for them?? Geico has done this twice to me once in 2004 & again in 2009...& both times I canceled the funny little lizard! I told them everything they need to know about me ,my auto,& driving record
Like I told them I AM THE ONE that pays them ,my name is the only one on the policy & it is not my place or theirs to nose into someone else's business & that if they want to know about someone else then ask them?? I was told that they do have a right to know about anyone that lives or has lived at my address past or present ..(they get these names by running your address on the Internet)

So I told them yes that's your right to want to know & my right to cancel you!
My advice to anyone that wants car insurance don't pick the company by some stupid childish TV add! They treat their new costumers like little kids with these ads & who is helping to pay for the ads ?     Like the one....." it's so easy a caveman could do it"

That is what they really think of you!  That you are stupid! & they want your money

So ed maybe you could explain geicos "policy" or I should say big brother" policy"

Oh yes "ED"  FYI  I have not had a ticket or insurance claim for anything in over 25years..

Bait and switch, just sad.

AUTHOR: consumer2 - (United States of America)

"A deceptive sales technique that involves advertising a low-priced item to attract customers to a store/company, then persuading them to buy more expensive goods..."

This is a bit different experience as I never finalized the policy.  I personally entered every accident and ticket I received and I was quoted at $800 for 6 months on Geico's site.  I have newish car, 2010, and a rocky driving history (none of which I deny).  I've gotten quotes from Geico before, but after reading this I really wanted to test it.  I have a record of my driving history in front of me.  I entered every single incident in my history up to 5 years.  I got a quote of $800 for 6 months.  I entered my card number and wham it went up to 1200, which is more than I pay now.  I'll stick with Progressive; at least they give you honest quotes from the beginning without the bait and switch tactic.

#4 UPDATE Employee

Um, no you didn't report it.

AUTHOR: Ed - (USA)

If you had reported the accident on your original insurance application, it would have been included in your original quote.  GEICO does not run your claims report or motor vehicle report until you agree to buy the policy.  Most of the time, we run the reports before you make your payment.  However, sometimes those reports are not immeidately available to us.  In those cases we update your policy after we receive them.

The rate you receive is completely accurate, as long as the information you give on your insurance application is completely accurate.  Had you disclosed accurate information on the insurance application, there would not have been any surprises.

Here's one of your comments.....

" Evidently there "reporting" failed to show a car accident from 2009" I'm sure YOU didn't "forget" to mention this little "accident" on your policy application.....did you? BTW, what are "tack ticks?"
