I just recently purchased a car after not having a car for almost 2 months. After shopping around for the cheapest insurance, I eventually settled with Geico. My boyfriend who does not live with me was in the process of buying a car as well and he wanted to see if it would be cheaper to go onto my insurance or to get insurance on his own.

After I purchased a policy with Geico; I requested a QUOTE to see how much it would cost my boyfriend to be added to the policy. Geico then sent me an email stating that he was added to the policy and the new price wich increased my premium almost $400! I then called Geico to inform them that I simply requested a quote as it was stated on the page, and would like to remove him from the policy as they have added him in error. I was then infromed that due to his driving record, when I requested a quote they automatically added him to the policy.

I of course was shocked as this was stated NO WHERE on the screen when I requested the quote and they did not make this clear. I informed them that I was not willing to pay for someone who was not even going to be driving my car, and after some time of begging for him to be removed I eventually just cancelled the policy.

Geico is a very sneaky company. They will tell you that you are just filling out a quote and then add the person to your policy without your permission and basically force you to pay for it. They are a money hungry company and I for one will NEVER do business with them again.

As I stated in my initial complaint my boyfriend does NOT live wth me and he would not be driving my car. I stated all of this in the "quote" that I filled out online. If what you are saying is true and they require the person to be on the policy if they LIVE with you then what Geico did was still very sneaky as my bofriend has a completely different address from me, and I stand by my previous statement of NEVER doing business with them again.

So yes Geico's sneaky attempts to get more money out of people did piss me off, and I'm sure they have lost more than a few customers because of this.

But GEICO take the questions you entered in the quote literally, not hypothetically.  During the quote, you we're asked if this person currently lives with you. You were also asked if they are currently insured.

GEICO requires that anyone age 15 or older be listed if they live with you.  They do this because people don't tell them about occasional drivers all of the time, and GEICO ends up having to cover these people when they get in accidents.  Pissing off a few people like you is the price they are willing to pay to get the correct premium for the risk as often as possible.

We to were subject to the same thing this week. I don't drive anymore, but we were curious to see how much it would cost to be added to my girlfriend's policy if I did decide to drive again. I had a single car accident a few years back and mentioned that in the quote. We get an email back saying that I was added to her policy and that the premium would go up $100. What?! It was a QUOTE! The only way to fix it would be to prove that I have other insurance. But I don't have other insurance because I don't drive! We are now in the process on canceling and finding a new provider. GEICO was the cheapest so this QUOTE will now cost us even more! Why would they add someone to the policy if we were just curious? Down right ridiculous!
