I purchased a brand new 2012 Prius two weeks ago, the only miles on the car at the time were from my test-drive. The dealership faxed all information on the car to Geico at the time of sale, and Geico faxed back insurance cars. A week later, I received a letter from Geico that my comprehensive and collission had been cancelled because I never completed the photo inspection at one of their inspection sites. The letter said that I could send the Certificate of Sale if it was a new car purchase and the photo inspection requirement would be waived. I work - ALOT - and was quite annoyed by this, but immediately faxed the Certificate of Sale. The next day, I received a call from a Geico rep stating that I needed to also send the window sticker, and once that was sent my coverage would be fully reinstated. Now, this is ridiculous, all of the information had already been sent from the dealership and everything on the window sticker can be obtained from the VIN. I immediately send the window sticker. It is now Saturday, and I am getting ready to travel to Canada (in the new car) this weekend, this afternoon I received another notice from Geico stating that I now need tos end the complete "Paid Bill of Sale." I attempted to call, but the inspection department was apparently closed. This is absolutely ridiculous. I have also received an email (yesterday) stating that the photo inspections for my other two cars have not yet been completed, even though they were both completed, at Geico sites (and great inconvenience) yesterday. Buyer Beware with Geico!! I will be cancelling the coverage - the $100 or $150 that I saved over Allstate just is not worth the hassle or the uncertainty of knowing whether you have coverage!!
