I purchased a Jenn-Air Refrigerator, Gas Range, Built in Dishwasher and Over the Range Microwave oven in Jan 2002 and purchased a GE service contract for 3 years for approx. 800 dollars for 3 years for all the above. The Microwave itself was about 150.00 for the 3 year period.
The trouble started Oct 2006 when my Microwave, Refrigerator and dishwasher all broke down. I called GE for service and was told that they were changing service companies and couldn't get to me till after Nov 27. When the service man got to me he adjusted the dishwasher but didn't fix microwaves and the refridge needed to be defrosted ( ??? DEFROSTED? 4000.00 frost free refrigerator! )! GE then couldn't find anyone to work on the microwave so they just ignored my calls until Feb 2007 because by that time my service contract ran out so they charged me another approx. 800 dollars to renew for another 3 years. at that time they sent another service man out who broke the microwave door and said he couldn't fix the unit.
By this time the the refridge was not working again so they sent the first service man out to fix the refridge again and he said it needed to to defrosted again. After tons more of calls approx. 2 months later they sent yet a 3rd service man out to look at the microwave and refridge. He fixed the refridge which never needed to be defrosted ( so I lost 3 loads of food and was living out of a tiny fridge on and off for 3 months) and was broken and said he would send a report to GE so he could order the parts for the microwave. GE sent him back to me too look again and get exact parts numbers ect..
In June of 2007 the service man called me to tell me the parts were discontinued and to call GE and tell them after getting the runaround from GE not returning any calls I finally get someone on Friday Nov. 16th who tells me I can have a buy out for 448.12 for the Jenn-air microwave ( I paid 1100.00 for my microwave ) or GE model CVM2072SMSS for 147.12 plus tax delivered and installed OR for FREE/NO charge GE model JVM1790SK delivered and installed and was instructed to go to the store to look at them.
I called GE today Nov 19th. to take the free of charge delivered and installed model GE JVM1790SK and was told I would have to pay the 147.12 plus tax ( I tried to explain to them I was offered this unit free ad they said NO WE DIDN'T!) and I would NOT be getting a refund on the new service contract even though my microwave broke under the old contract.
When asked to speak with a supervisor I received the most nasty, rude person who told me the same thing even though I was promised a full refund of my service contract since the micro broke under the old contract and the GE JVM1790SK Free of charge and delivered and installed. She told me to take it or leave it pay the 147.12 because it was an upgrade from my current microwave ( I would love to know when a 600.00 GE microwave oven is an upgrade from an 1100.00 Jenn-air microwave!) they wouldn't refund the contract because GE made the decision to fix the situation under the new contract ( This should have been done in Oct 2006 when I originally had the problem so they waited to get another 150.00 out of me for a new service contract.). The best was after she received my credit card number for the 157.48 she hung up on me and I had to call someone else back to see when I would be receiving the micro!
So now I'm out 150.00 for the old contract, 150.00 for the new contract, 157.48 for the GE JVM1790SK to replace the microwave ( which I was promised for free) which is a 600.00 dollar unit as compared to my 1100.00 Jenn-air unit and the original 1100.00 for my Jenn-air microwave.
So this entire fiasco cost me 1 year of stress, 457.48 to GE for a unit worth half the price as my unit and 1100.00 for my original unit = 1557.48 to heat up food ( and 3 full loads of food I lost with the refridge!)! Now I don't even a Jenn-air unit to match the rest of my appliances. THANKS FOR NOTHING GE! I WILL NEVER BUY A GE PRODUCT OR SERVICE CONTRACT AGAIN!
