The 2011 Chevrolet Camaro advertised fuel economy of 18 City and 29 Highway. I purchased the Camaro in March of 2011. Within 400 miles I realized the vehicle was getting significantly lower MPG. The onboard computer indicated that that vehicle was getting 13.1 miles per gallon. I did a manual calculation and came up with the same number. I brought it into the dealer and was told it would take 8,000 to 10,000 miles before I got the advertised MPG. I kept a record both by the onboard computer and a manual calculation and the fuel economy continued to drop to 12.883 miles per gallon. I took it to the dealer again and was told that the vehicle checked out perfectly.

I then contacted GM and the Better Business Bureau and after a four month arbitration was told that mileage varies and that it was out of the Better Business Bureaus jurisdiction. I provided four months of gasoline receipts, manual calculation and dashboard photos showing the onboard computers readings and still GM denies that there is a significant difference between what is advertised and what was delivered. I also provided a copy of an email from the dealer representative that I purchased the vehicle from. In the email, she claims that this happened with a Chevy Equinox and General Motors purchased the vehicle back. However, they still deny an issue with the Camaro even after they were given all of the above proof.

Beware. GM does not stand behind the claims they make of the vehicles they manufacture.

Salesperson not cashier

AUTHOR: KeithB - (United States of America)

Mention was made of the salesperson, meaning the woman that sold me the vehicle, not a cashier. This is not a case of buyers remorse because I like the vehicle with the exception of the fuel economy. I purchased the vehicle believing that I would be getting 18/29 MPG. I would not have purchased a 6 cylinder that gets 12.833 MPG had I know this.

You must have the V6 Camaro,

AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)

Here's a link to the EPA site listing the ratings for the car....note, GM does NOT provide these figures, they just publish them according to law. Go get 'em, the EPA will sure get a kick out of your complaint.

You are accusing the wrong entity of fraud...

AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)

GM and other car makers list the EPA estimated mileage figures...they don't just make them up themselves.

The BBB just didn't tell you what you wanted to hear.

" I also provided a copy of an email from the dealer representative that I purchased the vehicle from. In the email, she claims that this happened with a Chevy Equinox and General Motors purchased the vehicle back."

Who was this "dealer representative"...the cashier at the payment window?

This all sounds like buyer's remorse to me.  See if the EPA will buy the car back....they ARE the ones providing the mpg information that the mfr. posts.
