Started leaking anti-freeze, we could not find the source until last week when all hell broke loose.
The upper and lower intake manifold gaskets (that we've found internal documentation sent to dealership repair departments stating that the intake manifold gaskets were defective and would deteriorate prematurely)
Meanwhile......last week, upper and lower intake manifold gaskets finally went out and caused the water pump to leak (suspect of course since we didn't get that part back, but got the rest of them back)
Cost to repair $1189.53....plus $119.86 for 3 day Enterprise rental car. Thankfully Geico towed us with our emergency roadside assistance with our insurance.
Talked to a very nice lady at GM who said she'd call the authorized Pontiac dealer we took to have the repairs made.
She called back the next day telling us basically to go screw ourselves given the 'age' of the vehicle and the 'high mileage' (81,000 miles on a 6 yr old vehicle??? Give me a break!)
So basically the Canadian Class action lawsuit against GM is still in process but the US class action lawsuit against GM for this defective part and repair costs has been kicked out as of March 2007, few weeks ago.
Too many lemon laws, too many jurisdictions....our only recourse now is to take GM to small claims court here locally.
We can't afford to off this vehicle now that we've put so much money into repairs and went into debt to fix it.
(add on the RJM Acquisition Funding LLC report I filed today that is trying to collect a bogus Fingerhut debt that never existed.......trying to ruin our credit)
You can best be assured we will NEVER own another GM vehicle for the rest of our lives!
We're planning on taking GM to small claims court as soon as I recover from my recent hospital stay. The GM lady didn't care that I was going into the hospital for cancer treatment.....no sympathy whatsoever.
She didn't care that it cost more to fix our van than our mortgage payment.
I even went so far as to ask her if I could have someone send her my obituary stating that the $1200 we spent could have gone towards my medical care instead of a vehicle that broke down because of GM's full knowledge of the defective part but refusal to issue a recall.
GM can KMA.

We're out over $1200 including the rental car for 3 days while it was being fixed.
Someone got a great deal on that Montana. We fixed it, got screwed by GM (you're right, GM doesn't care).
We traded the Montana in for 2 new vehicles (that were well checked out for safety, gas mileage ect) in June.
82K miles on the Montana, exceptionally clean interior, exterior, new tires, well maintained ect. traded in for the new vehicles.
Someone is going to get a nice vehicle now that WE fixed it.
GM really hosed us. I will NEVER buy another GM vehicle. If I WON a GM vehicle I'd turn it down, PUBLICLY so others would know how bad GM treats their customers (and lets not forget workers, I'm from Michigan, GM screws all their employees too)
No wonder everyone seems to be buying foreign vehicles these days.
The big 3 don't want to give Americans what they want, affordable transportation, great gas mileage, alternative fuel sources/hybrids and safety.
Screw GM. They lost my entire family as potential customers.
The 3.4litre is the main engine affected by this issue, although there are others...

And you keep side stepping the fact that the vehicle does have 81,000 miles on it. If you were talking about 28,000 miles-then I'd be inclined to agree.
Things do start to fail when vehicles get miles on them. Again, when you unload this unit to someone else, and something fails, are you going to allow them to sue you for selling them a "faulty vehicle"? Where did you get the perception that a vehicle lasts forever? Why didn't you keep your last vehicle then?
VERY WELL MAINTAINED and serviced regularly, oil changed every 3,000 miles whether it needs it or not...brand new tires at all times, show a little wear they get replaced.
We have every maintenance record for this vehicle.
Also when the upper and lower intake manifold gasket went to hell last week we had our certified mechanic over to diagnose the problem.
At NO TIME was the water pump 'leaking' as the Pontiac dealer claimed.
Since we requested ALL our parts back low and behold the 'leaky' water pump was NOT INCLUDED!
Looks like GM found a way to make even more money on the back end of the deal.
They would not be having class action lawsuits in 2 countries if this was not a KNOWN GM DEFECTIVE PART!
When we had the van diagnosed the water pump was NOT leaking at all....it was clearly the upper and lower intake manifold ONLY.
Since we requested ALL of the parts and that suspect 'leaky' water pump was NOT INCLUDED...we got ripped off.
We had a certified mechanic diagnose the vehicle before we took it to the Pontiac dealer and he said he will testify in court that the water pump was NOT LEAKING.
The only reason we took it to the Pontiac dealer was that our certified mechanic was booked up and could not get to our vehicle for 2 weeks....the Pontiac dealer did it in 2 days.
"We own a 1991 Pontiac Montana Mini-van with 81,000 miles on it."
and
"....given the 'age' of the vehicle and the 'high mileage' (81,000 miles on a 6 yr old vehicle??? "
My calculator shows 2007 - 1991 = 16 years...
So this is really a 16 year-old GM vehicle, not a 6 year-old vehicle..... ?
81,000/16 = 5100 miles/year would be LOW miles/year!!
I just traded a 1991 Toyota Camry in for a $2000 allowance on a 2007 Camry. Not bad for a beat-up 323,000-mile Camry that had accumulated three mechanical repairs that totaled $750 in its 16-year service life.
Toyota pays its executives chump-change compared to what GM executives collect (or 'take', actually, since the top executives essentially set their own generous salaries, much like the US Congress does). Of course, Japanese law limits what Japanese executives can be paid to 6X the pay of a Japanese company's lowest paid employee.
That high GM exec pay has to come from somewhere, which means the GM engineers responsible for the GM products get squeezed really really hard. So the customer (you) must take the final hit. And GM market share continues to dwindle- to less than 24% of US auto market now? I can remember when GM had almost a 60% share of the US auto market.
Drive your GM vehicle and keep your fingers crossed that it will give you at least another 80,000 miles. You won't get much (if any) resale value for a 16-year-old GM vehicle. I think I might have junked it.

They suit was more than likely kicked out as it was probably frivolous. So, when you sell or trade in this gem of yours, and the new buyer has a problem, can they come sue you? After all, you would have sold them a defective vehicle.
