I ordered a very expensive champagne gift for my parents 50th wedding anniversary and had to pay extra for Saturday delivery.  The delivery company attempted delivery only one time.
When I called customer service, they did not care that the package was not delivered and would not refund the extra Saturday delivery fee.  The customer service person just kept repeating that since they tried once to deliver, that nothing could be done.  And that they can't make their delivery company go back to the receiving address.
When I explained all the particulars of the situation, this company would not budge on the extra Saturday delivery fee.  Do not order from GiftTree.com.  They don't care if your package is delivered when it's supposed to be.

Arrange for Early Delivery

Sorry but I have to comment to tell you that your expectation is the only thing wrong here. If you knew anything about shipping you would know that scheduling a gift to arrive on the day of important event is dangerous particularly if the package is going to require a signature. In this case you ordered champagne which means that Federal Express legally had to obtain an adult signature before leaving the package. So why are you angry at Gifttree?  There is no way Gifttree or God for that matter could get Federal Express to make a redelivery attempt on the same day and in particular a Saturday? Federal Express is not going to go back to a house over and over again on the same day to deliver a gift just because it is important to you. That is not how they do business. Can you simply think for a minute? How could you possibly expect that Federal Express is going to keep trying to make a delivery on the same day over and over again while they have other packages to deliver? Does your mail carrier come back over and over if you are not there on Saturday for the mail delivery? In regards to a refund, Federal Express earned their money. They went to the house. The problem here is you. Federal Express Saturday delivery fees are expensive. If this was such an important gift why not have it arrive early? What if there had been bad weather that caused the delay? My advice would be to make allowances for delays and make sure you order your gifts so they arrive before the occasion. But more importantly why would you blame Gifttree? They do not control Federal Express. It doesn't matter how much they care or how much they ask, Federal Express has a route and they do not vary from it just because you think they should. I do not work for Gifttree but I work for another company and I deal with people like you all day. You think that you are special and that you should get something for free when the problem starts with you and your ridiculous expectations. You think if you threaten to damage a company by posting something like this they will jump and give you something for nothing or refund the Saturday fee because you screamed loud enough. Why would they give you a refund when they had to pay the Saturday fee to Federal Express? Well I tell you what our company has stopped jumping and I encourage others to do the same. Maybe it is time for you to do some soul searching and realize this was not Gifttree's fault. They did exactly what you asked; they shipped a gift of champagne with Saturday delivery. The fact that you did not make sure than an adult was there to sign for the gift is your fault. Now woman up and admit you were wrong to make the post and learn from this. Before you go off half cocked, think before you post. Who is really to blame? I suspect in almost every case it will be you, either because you waited too late to do something, or didn't think it through. And take a breath before you call a customer service person like me. It is not my fault you made a mistake.

Rebuttal

AUTHOR: Shawna - (United States of America)

I am the director of Customer Service and am aware of this order and the customer's complaint. When the customer placed the order the product description says in red lettering that adult signature is required for packages containing alcohol. That being said, Fed ex will not leave packages outside that contain alcohol.

The customer ordered the gift and chose Fed Ex Saturday delivery. Fed ex attempted delivery on Saturday and no one was home to sign for the package. As much as we would like to have more control over Fed ex we can not force them to go back to the address later in the day as they have other deliveries and we are not provided with cell phone numbers for each driver. When we send messages to Fed ex regarding deliveries the message travels through a number of channels and we can not guarantee the driver will get the message before they return to the terminal. So it is not a matter of us not caring whether the package is delivered or not we simply physically can not make a driver take a package back to the same address twice in one day. Fed ex will not refund the shipping charges since they did attempt delivery on the date requested and paid for by the customer.

We hope that our customers understand that when they choose to ship alcohol and the recipients are not home by law Fed ex can't leave the package and will attempt delivery the next business day. The item was successfully delivered the following business day at the second attempt. We apologize that this customer is unhappy and we would be happy to discuss this further if he would like to contact me directly.
