I have never heard of a moving scam before. Josh assured me several times that my rate would not be more than $1300, and the $1300 included everything from door to door, and there would be absolutely no shuttle fees. I did explain to Josh that if it was more than $1300, I would not be able to afford it and would have to find other means for this move. Josh plesantly reassured me, and advised me not to worry about anything, "we'll get you all taken care of", he said.
3 men arrived at my house in Kansas City on june 9, 2011 to move me. They seemed professional and did a decent job getting everything on the truck. The company called me On Wednesday, June 13 to advise me my things will arrive the following day in Brooklyn (which was within the window date requested). Well, my horror story began when the truck driver named 'Tal' called me sounding like he was on amphetamines. He asked how much was my balance, and before thinking I told him $500. Tal then said (yelling & screaming) I want cash, "GIMME CASH ONLY!". I became a little leary of this person. I had been dealing with the company with my credit card up until this point. I also thought if he is working for this company delivering my items, shouldn't he know how much my balance is? I emailed the company to confirm, and never received a response (still waiting). (The company and/or Josh had no problem responding when they took my payments).
The next day I called the company & finally got thru to someone. This person said yes give the driver cash only. Ok, the driver 'Tal' calls me & says he is in NJ & on his way at that point I asked my mother to get the cash from the bank while I go to the storage facility to meet 'Tal'. Tal arrived aprox 10 minutes later (from NJ to Bklyn-YEAH RITE!), He was very short tempered, yelling, cursing, screaming, he even almost walked through the glass instead of opening the door. It seemed as if he was not right in his mind. He also had 2 goons with him. They looked very scary & intimidating. We had to go to the the back of the facility for access to my storage unit, no one was there but us. Tal & his 2 goons surrounded me and demanded the money. Screaming & Yelling 'GIMME THE CASH NOW!" They were acting like they were commiting a robbery. I told Tal my mother is coming now with the cash she's not even 10 minuets away. Tal cursed me out and said he will wait 10 minutes - which he didn't wait at all. He immediately jumped on his truck while his goons made sure he had a clear get away path, then they jumped on the truck and speeded off.
My mother pulled up, while they had just passed the light on the next block. My mother (70 years old) went speeding to see if she could catch them, but couldn't. I called Tal & said my mother is trying to catch you can you please turn around. Tal said "NO, I'm on the Manhattan Bridge now (which was a LIE of course) you want your stuff, rent a truck, meet me in New Jersey in 1 hour, make sure you have $500 & I'll give you your stuff!" My 70 year old mother even called him to ask him to come back and Tal just screamed at her and cursed her out also.
All of this going on and at the same time I am calling the moving company. When I finally got to speak with someone they said the driver had to wait 3 hours for me (which I told them was a BOLD FACE LIE!) So, here's a few of the stories I was told of what to do to get my stuff:
pay $350 for redelivery & $150 a day for storage in additon to the $500 balance
pay $450 for redelivery & $150 a day for storage in addition to the $500 balance
maybe we can charge you $200 for redelivery & $150 daily for storage in addition to the $500
Pay $150 a day storage until you get a truck and come get your own stuff (in addition to the $500)
pay $450 for redelivery, maybe we can work something out with the payments, cause you have a $500 balance or rent a truck go get your stuff it's $150 to store, but that is not a daily fee.
In the meantime I have none of my belongings. Me or my son. EVERYTHING was on that truck. My son's first books, all his toys, the outfit he came home from the hospital in when he was born. All my family pictures and keepsakes. Everything you possibly need to function in your home. Every drop of the little bit of funiture i proudly OWNED.
I am happy that I found this website. I am not stopping here. I am contacting any person, department, and/or agency that will litsen. These people need to be stopped. They need to be sued and imprisoned. If there are others out there... I URGE you - let's get together and create a CLASS ACTION against this company, the owner's/founder's, employee's, driver's, and any person/s, group/s, company/companies affiliated with Globe Moving & Trucking.

BBB Is Useless..But Authorities Less So....

The BBB has no tool or interest in letting consumers know whether a company may have owners who have scammed consumers in the past, especially if they've been owners now or in the past.
I would be interested in anyone who contacted moverescue dot com to help get their stuff back to see if this may be a viable tool for consumers to use. I have heard on a few occasions that they worked pretty well, however I don't know whether it was them, or simply the mover finally getting around to the shipper....if you haven't used them, I suggest it again.

Wasting Time With a Lawsuit
AUTHOR: Jim - (U.S.A.)

For starters, a lawsuit won't go anywhere. Aside from the limitations on what you can sue them for, they haven't done anything illegal. In the moving industry, even if you have a binding contract, the mover can change the terms and conditions as soon as the mover shows up and declares you have more stuff than your quote suggests. The best part is, they place that blame upon you!! The mover can technically be as negligent as you can imagine, and you won't be able to sue them for it. All the mover has to you is yell 'Carmack Amendment' and the suit is tossed. The police won't help, the DOT agency in your state lacks jurisdiction, and the Fed's are useless, though I would file a complaint with the FMCSA - maybe one of their three people overseeing the several thousands of moves occuring each year might do something (not).
What to do? At this point, I would contact the folks at www dot moverescue dot com. If the mover is a member of the AMSA, the folks there have people and lawyers at their disposal to help you get your stuff back.
Moving is not inexpensive; if all you had was $1300 to move yourself, you would have been best advised to do it yourself. If you had gotten a quote from a reputable mover, you would know how expensive moving is, and the reputable movers only make 5% profit on each move. For those of you who used Globe and have your stuff, just let it go. Chalk this up to your naivete in thinking you could move that cheaply. Best of luck to you.
