Beware of using any Gold's Gym franchises! The company licenses their name to franchises but DO NOT keep up with them, and lets them run illegally. Their Gold's Gym location in Greenbelt, Maryland (owned and managed by a company called Star Fitness) was forfeited by the state of Maryland for not paying taxes approximately 2 years before the gym ceased business. During that two years of illegal operation, the owner was not only accepting new business, and signing new personal training contracts, but he was also using company funds for personal use. When the gym closed for business in October 2012, some customers were still being debited fees, refunds for unused personal training sessions were never issued, and employees weren't paid. The owner filed for personal bankruptcy, so he's NEVER going to pay out the money he owes.
I contacted Gold's Gym corporate multiple times through their website, and through direct email and NEVER received a response. Of course they don't offer a phone number anywhere for customers. I filed a complaint through the BBB seeking a refund (or at the least a credit at another gym location) and Gold's Gym rejected the complaint, stating that I would have to handle the matter with the franchise owner because they are not liable.
Shame on you, Gold's Gym, for selling your name to ANYBODY, willingly letting them use your company name to fool consumers, and then not holding yourselves accountable for ANYTHING.
Believe the negative things you hear about Gold's Gym. The corruption isn't ONLY at the gym level...it's all the way up the food chain at that company.
