I was one of the many people who got scammed by trial offers and promises of "$50,000 A DAY!!!!". I'm a broke college student (even more so now) and I had to find a way to make money. I got pulled into the business of freebies. Basically you try a bunch of trial offers and get paid the difference that companies save on advertising. Well that's all fine as long as you cancel the trial offer (7 days was the average) before it runs out. After 7 days companies charge you with their "monthly membership". A checking account hit that can be anywhere from $10-$80. I read the fine print in Google Money Tree's terms of service, and they stated that if I didn't cancel the trial before 7 days, I would be charged $72.21. "Well ok", I said to myself. All I had to do was cancel and send back their CD-Rom in the mail. Well after 5 days into my free trial I hadn't received my trial CD so I called them to cancel my membership to avoid the "membership fee". After identifying myself to a sales representative and requesting to cancel my trial, the woman told me that my CD had not been sent, so my trial hadn't started yet. I didn't like the sound of that so I asked her to repeat herself to clarify. Once more she said that my trial wouldn't start until my CD was sent. Well that was pretty clear, so I said thanks and hung up the phone. As fate would have it, after 2 days of waiting I checked my bank account and sure enough, there was a charge for $72.21 (a lot of money for me). I figured this would happen, but since the woman told me so confidently that it wouldn't, I figured I could call the company and clear it all up. And to nobody's surprise, they side-stepped everything I told them and repeated over and over again that there was nothing they could do. So I promptly filed a report with the Better Business Bureau and called them again. "Hello," I said. "I notified the BBB about what you guys are doing, so this is your last chance to come clean and just give me my money back." But they still insisted that there was nothing they could do. So I hung up the phone and waited. Here I am a month later and I haven't heard even a whisper from the BBB. My checking account is -$250 now, and there's not much I can do. After finding this site I figured, hey why not post my story. So there you go. Thanks.
