The practices and the rules of the liquidators in general seem dishonest. The one that I have the biggest problem with is how they handle defective products.
If we find an item to be defective, even if it was defective from before the store having to liquidate (needed to be sent back) we simply mark it as defective (which isn't always done either) and then put it back on the shelf at the same price as the brand new/open box/display item. I don't know if this is only at my location but it's starting to wear my patience thin.
Placing defective items on the shelves, re-shrink wrapping them, boxing them, etc.. selling them for full price (also telling customers to not open cartons) and then telling people are sales are final seems rather shady. Yeah, everyone knows that all prices are final, the signs are obvious throughout the store so people know to shop at their own risk, but to place something out there that we know doesn't work? Not only that, I would think it would be unfair to those who either cannot read or do not speak English well (we get a lot of spanish-only speakers).
Asking people to not open cartons makes sense, considering otherwise it would lead to a lot of theft (yes it only takes a few people with sticky fingers to ruin it for everyone). All sales final makes sense because it's a liquidation sale. But things like a defective DVD being put back on the shelf? Or a computer missing a significant amount of parts or with a bad motherboard only being sold 10 or 15 percent off? I have heard people wasting well over 500 dollars on something that is broken, they cannot return, and most likely the manufacturer will not cover.
Sadly, many people will blame Circuit City itself and see all the liquidating stores as such even though our every move and policy is handled by the liquidation companies. I, for one, want to point my finger at the source and make sure they take due credit.
This is just one of the shady things that they've put into practice but what they're doing is thievery in my book and I don't know how much longer I'm going to be working there....
