at its best!

I was sitting at home when they called and I had just sent info off to another grant co, so I thought maybe they're just calling me up. When they wanted my checking # I should have hung up on them but I didn't.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one to fall for this but it stinks!! I bank with a credit union and I don't think it will be easy to freeze my account, get a new #. But I will call my bank tomorrow.

The one thing that they did say in the recorded verifying part was that I could cancel within 3 days. So I will call them back, too, to do that...

A word to the wise: never offer bank info over the phone

AUTHOR: Suzi - (U.S.A.)

A note to Paul, last responder: my bank lost its electrical power, to a wind storm. I don't appreciate your comments. My father encouraged me to change my bank account anyways, which I did, which I had no problem doing, and the bank will keep an eye out for any charges from the grant folks. So I will need to change all my debit info, ugh.

A word to the wise: never offer bank info over the phone, esp if they call you and you don't know who they are.

Are you on the do not call registry? Get on it, and report companies that abuse their priveleges.

A similar scenario (solicitation re: grants) made it to the police blotter of the Falls Church (VA) News Press.

Right along with your money!

The benefit of the doubt?

Boy, ain't you an innocent kitten!

But, you'll learn though!

It'll just take a while, and a couple hundred dollars of your hard-earned money!

Government Grant Guide

AUTHOR: Suzi - (U.S.A.)

I just got off the phone with John Carson. He said it would be no problem processing my request to cancel. My original request (to buy the product) had not been processed yet, he said it takes 48 hours. I told him my "do not call" rights had been violated, he asked what state I was in and said he would look into it. I asked him if I could call back in a couple of days to see if my cancellation had been processed and he said yes. Since it would be a big headache to change my bank account, I am going to give these folks the benefit of the doubt and wait a few days. He was very nice. I asked him where he was located and he said Las Vegas. I asked him if he was aware of other companies, such as the one in Clearwater Florida and he said yes he was aware, but their company was legit. I figure since I now have cancelled the transaction, I will have the law on my side if there is a debit, I can use the Federal Form E. I have read many of the posts and I have to say (at this point) that I am one of the lucky ones.

By the way, a little irony: there was a huge storm last night and my bank has no power. So when I called to talk to someone, the receptionist said we have no power, can you call later.

Government Grant Processing AKA Government Grant Guide

As I was working with the FTC website, it occurred to me that I don't have a relationship with these folks and they called me! And my # has been on the do not call list for a year!! So I just filed a complaint on them for that too.
