In December of 07' my husband and I along with another couple attended a timeshare presentation at the Grand Mayan Los Cabos. At the end of the presentation we stated "No interest" the hard sell was pushed but we held firm to our "No interest". We were then offered the "Opportunity" to purchase a "Mayan Sea Garden Vacation Club Membership" at a total of $7100. They would "allow" us to split this membership, the total of $3550. per couple. For this amount each couple would receive
1.) Individual 2 year RCI membership ONE per couple (our sales person was very specific about this) to be extended 2 years, to expire in December 2011. This was offered as an incentive to get us to purchase.
2.) ONE bankable red week per year, per couple. (Since we were purchasing in December our sales agent Jacob Semler stated our weeks would "roll over", to be banked at our convenience the nest year.
3.) ONE Vacation Fare week per year.
4.) ONE Sea Pak week per year.
5.) Additional discounts on greens fees and car rentals.
After verifying all of our names were listed on all documents and after being reassured of everything offered we accepted and made our payment.
We were given owners packets before we left, we have never received anything more from Grupo Mayan.
In October of 2008 my husband and I purchased our friends share of the "Mayan Sea Garden Vacation Club Membership" Per Grupo Mayan customer service instructions we had a sales agreement drawn up and notarized. This agreement was then faxed to customer service. Later that month i contacted Customer service requesting information on banking our weeks for 2007/2008. I was informed we only had one bankable week a year, when I disputed this I was told that Mr. Semler would have to contact me. Mr. Semler did contact me and explained that I must have mis understood him, that we only had one bankable week total not per couple. He then offered a FREE membership into another Vacation Club, giving me 25 years to use as I please for the rest of my life. He said he would be mailing this out, I received it and returned the signed document, never to hear back again. I believe this was just a way to placate me.
During my conversation with Mr. Semler I stated that I had never received my RCI membership information; he stated he would take care of this for me. I have never received any more contact from Mr. Semler about the RCI Membership.
In December of 2009 after numerous attempts throughout the year each time being told "your request must be processed via email, please contact again in 24-48 hours. I was given every excuse possible, when asking for a follow up call to clear this up i was informed they do not return phone calls, if you wanted information I would need to call back myself. When I asked to speak with a supervisor during one of theirs conversations I was told I could not speak to a supervisor, the operator refused my request. I was finally able to get an operator who gave me some useful information: My husband and I DO NOT OWN ANYTHING. The "Mayan Sea Garden Vacation Club Membership" is listed in the other couples name! The membership was never transfered into our names and we don't have an RCI Membership, we were never given one, the other couple was given an extension on the membership they already have! Customer service told us we would need to "get the other couple to give us there membership". They already had one at the time of purchase so all Grupo Mayan did was extend the existing membership. They never issued a new membership.
I have faxed letters to every fax number I can find and have never received any response. The customer service fax number (713)888-0594 and phone number (713)888-0499 give a constant busy signal, you can not get through. I have NEVER been able to get through to those numbers the only number that answers is the Grupo Mayan Reservation & number (800)292-9446.
At this point what we were promised and what we paid for are two totally different things. We paid $7100 for the promised items above and have received NOTHING but a bunch of worthless papers. WHAT A RIP OFF.
Save your $$ take a cruise, I will, am telling everyone to stay away from all destinations related to this group!
P.S. I have gone to work in the Travel Industry since this purchase and you had better believe I have NOTHING positive to say about Grupo Mayan.
