I just want to pre warn all you people who are loney and looking for love. There are organizations such as Great Expectations who prey upon individuals such as us. I was recently divorced and and looking for MR RIGHT. This organization sent me an invitation through the mail claiming to help me find MR RIGHT. I called them on the phone, spoke with one of their represenatives, who made an appointment for me to come into their office to discuss my desires and preferences regarding a mate. I went into the office and meet with dating consultant. We discussed in depth what type of person I was looking for, given complete specifics. I was in her office for almost 4 hours discussing my preferences. Ths dating consultant told me she could guarantee they could accomodate me regarding they specific type of man I was looking for, and was confident that I would be married in a years time, and if this did'nt happen as they anticipated, they would continue to work with me by providing me with an undetermined amount of referrals until this happened to my satisfaction. The dating consultant stated she felt that I was a physically attractive female, professional, and very well educated, and she did'nt forsee any problems, and she was confident that they could provide a service that will meet all my espectations for a mere $3,500.00 and this included a personal shopper and a clause that since my desire was to be married, they would work with me until this happened. She then showed me a photo album booket of some of the male members they had, and she stated that a personal shopper would be working with me, and I could also make selections as well regarding those I may be interested in. I signed the contractual agreement and signed up for the service. After signing up for the service they told me I had to complete a video and pictures for my profile, then cost me an extra $200.00 or more depending on the package you choose, this was over and beyond the $3,500 I had already spent. They then told me that there was an extra fee of $29.00 a month to access their internet service, of which I could access their data base of pictures and profiles of eligible men I may be interested in. This $29.00 monthly fee was over and beyond the $3,500.00 fee I had already paid. Because I resided 2 and a half hours away from their office it was inconvienyant for me to come into their office to veiw photos and profiles of prosects, so i had no choice but to pay the $29.00 monthly service fee for web access because this was more conveiyant. I found the pickings to be very slim, and when I would make selections regarding potential prospects that I may have an interest in they would be on hold or the majority of them would'nt even respond until months later if they would respond at all. I also found that some of the prospects that great expectations had as available bachelors, who they had featured as active, some responded to me stating they had cancelled their membership months ago, and some years ago, and they were not interested in the service any longer, and they were appauled that great expectations was still featuring their photographs and profiles as if they were still eligible and active in their database. And finally the so called personal shopper never called me. I had to call them to inquire about it, and when she finally called me back, she gave me to referrals. I went out with both referrals and I found out that one guy abused women physically and no problem telling me so, and the other guy was unemployed and did'nt even have a job, and not to mention everytime I made a selection on their database of someone I may be interested in, they profiles were placed on hold, or they would not respond, or it was months would pass, and the responses were very few if any....And great expectations were steady billing me and expected to get paid. When I called them to complain about the two referrals and people they set me up to go out with. I found out then that they don't even do criminal backround checks on these people, so they could set you up with a serial killer and you not know it, and they don't care because they don't even bother to check. I must say that my experience has been an undesirable and dissapointing one. This company is one that preys upon unsuspecting victims, they make a whole lot of promises they don't keep. They will promise you the whole world to get you to sign up for their service, and agree to their contractual agreement, and after you sign it they don't care who they hook you up with. And they definitely don't care whether you make a love connection or not. ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS GETTING YOUR MONEY! I found that the multiple compaints I made to this office were unresolved and ignored, but yet they still wanted to get paid for a service the did'nt provide. It was an expensive lesson for me to learn but I learned.........Basically I paid for a service I did not get because they perpetrated THE SERIOUS FRAUD!!!!........I paid for the priviledge of skimming through profiles and photographs of people who were no longer members, and going out with a convict and someone that did'nt even have a job. And the cost of this?.......well over $ 6000.00 and for what. I feel I was taken to the cleaners.......because the amount of money i spent they should have hooked me up with BRAD PITT, DENZEL WASHINGTON. What I got was nothing. Please beware of organizations like this, and please don't make the same mistake I made. These companys are out for themselves and they don't give a darn about you.

If it is expensive, it must be good, Right? No?

AUTHOR: Friendly Help - (U.S.A.)

My wife sold for a dating service about 40 years ago. The fee was $300 for 2 years of matches.

Many different people walked into her little office, and half of her job was to weed out those who could not be helped, or those who simply should not be visited upon other people.

Some men could be very rigid in their old-world thinking. They could not be matched. Other people, men and women, had various emotional issues that made them, at the least, problematic.

The first step was a 40 question compatibility-test which gave practical indications on a person's personality: overly rigid, passive versus active, being perhaps a bit unwound, and so on. Anyone who ''failed'' was talked out of joining. Those who ''passed'' got the sales pitch.

I suppose $300 then is $1200 or so today. But $6000? Wow!

not upscale at all

AUTHOR: Guy - (U.S.A.)

Just a quick comment for the last person. I don't know about Virginia but in Colorado the members at Great Expectations are no different then those you will find on any other dating site. Don't be fooled, just because Great Expectations is expensive does not mean that they are "quality" or "upscale". They don't care who is giving them money. I think you will be very dissapointed if you join.

I've heard good things about Great Expectations..

AUTHOR: Luvmygrls00 - (U.S.A.)

I am shocked to have read this, for I have only heard positive things about the service.

I agree that a dating service is not for everyone; however, if you are going to look into a dating service, Great Expectations, from what I've heard, is by far one of the more upscale services out there.

A friend of mine, (and we're out here in Richmond, VA, by the way..) joined a little over a year ago and is exclusively dating a very good looking gentleman whom she said she wouldn't have met otherwise. They are both very attractive. I'm actually a tad bit jealous, and have considered joining myself, even though I'm a tad bit on the young side. :)

They are now engaged and have set the date and everything.

It just goes to show you that not everyone who pays for a service is 'desperate', by any means. A lot of us just want to be more selective and are tired of wasting time in the bars and clubs.

What is worse than GE?

AUTHOR: Db_hobbs - (U.S.A.)

I used to work at 2 different Great Expectations (owned by 2 different people). All I can say is that the only thing worse than GE are the people that come in there. I cannot begin to tell you about the pathetic people I interviewed. The majority of the women were very overweight and unattractive, and the men were just social misfits. There is no excuse why anyone needs a dating service. I heard "I just don't have time" and "There are no singles where I live or work" so many times it made me sick. The fact is that this society is lazy and wants everything handed to them in exchange for money.

Don't believe me? Ask a plastic surgeon, or a doctor that does liposuction. Just like this woman...for $3500 she expected Brad Pitt. Guess what toots? Brad Pitt would have to want you too, and I doubt he would if he saw a rear-end the size of a Ford F150. You cannot buy a real relationship, never could, never will. My advice to you and all members or potential members is to work on your self esteem, carry a positive attitude, and get active. The world is full of available, sensible people. The only thing you will find on-line or at a dating service is someone as desperate as yourself, and you wouldn't want that would you?

You really paid money?

AUTHOR: Patrick - (U.S.A.)

Cheryle love and marriage is not something you can buy, it is something that just happens. There is no way in this world I would pay a dating agency. My wife (of eleven years now) met at my divorce attys office. But it can happen anywhere and at anytime or never happen at all. But one thing is for sure spending 6k to a dating agency is not the place. You will find that person when you least expect it.
