My wife called me in tears and told me the story. I called the provided number for Green Tree and attempted to get to a supervisor in a effort to complain. I finally got to a Mr. Knott. I described the event to him and he told me that if we would just make out payments, we would be left alone. Exasperated, I thanked him for his time and then went on about life, paying the payments as soon as I could. This Donna continues to call and leave messages on our answering machine. We will not speak to her at all. I wish we could find some way to get some justice on this situation.

Secondly, and this is the bad part, there aren't really any attorneys who want to pursue legal litigation with this "company" by an individual. Why? Because they all say that this "company" will draw it out in court til your grandkids die and that they have the money to do it, so many attorneys won't take a case against them unless it's for bankruptcy. If you do file for bankruptcy, which is one of the options to get them off your back, make sure that you have no other "real property" in your name or as a shared name ANYWHERE in the entire country, or they will put a lien on that and make your life miserable. Just as they have done to me and my parents, see my enrty.
Your other option is to refinance if your credit will allow, and I know that's hard to do for many, myself included, as GT has probably ruined your credit to the point that no reputable bank will loan you a dollar let alone refinance your entire home. If this is an option, try to get a fixed rate loan and go to a local bank, they are much more forgiving should you have an emergency. And try to get insurance, which will pay for your mortgage in case something happens to you or your wife, if she is to be on the mortgage also. If bankruptcy is the way you may be leaning, make sure to have your bankruptcy attorney to list it as Green Tree Credit and all its subsidiaries and or entities and holding companies. Cover all bases there, I've read complaints on here that AFTER Ch. 7 was filed GT still went after them but under another name.
If changing your phone number is out of the question, and I understand that it's a hassle, I've heard a few suggestions about buying an answering machine with call recording features so that when your phone rings you can just hit record and tell them that you are recording them, tell them first before the conversation begins, it is legal, they do it also! Some on here have said that they change their tune completely.
Also, when you do send in a payment, make sure to keep records of ALL payments made, both from the past and any future payments made. If you don't they will still tell you that you owe them more money and you will have nothing to back your side of it up. Also ask GT for a printout of your payment history on YOUR account, see if they give it to you, they wouldn't me. Note the results from that encounter. If they do try to foreclose on your home, be prepared. Keep your payment file handy for the court to see, they have to go to court to take your home. Also if they ask why you want a payment history, tell them you want to reconcile your account and need the printout to do so, just like a checking account. This way you can see if you really are behind and by how much and by who's records!
My last suggestion is really an idea that I'm toying with. Since there are no attorneys who want to "take on" the challenge of fighting GT, I've been thinking about suggesting to everyone to email ALL their elected officials in their state and tell them first about this site so that they can see for themselves the repeated problems this Mafia Company of vultures has caused to consumers, and then tell them your story. It's worth a shot. I'm also trying to get names of attorneys who handle class action law suits, which will mean that the hundreds they have hurt will finally get a chance in court to tell their side of things.
I apologize for this being so long, but there's alot of information I have to tell. I'm not an attorney, I'm someone who's just been through it, and still going through it. I lost my home to them and don't wish that kind of torment on anyone else. I wish I'd never heard of this company! Keep us posted on any progress with them.
