I placed an order for the GripGo dashboard mount at their website, www.getgripgo.com.  I think it is run through As Seen On Tv.  In very large, clear print, the website states "Buy one get one free", $10.00 + [shipping and handling].  When you go to place an order, it will list the price as $10.00, plus $7.95 shipping and handling, and then if you want two, it is actually another $7.95 shipping and handling.  We thought it was tricky to advertise a buy one get one free and not mention that it is essentially $8 more for the second one.  But, we decided it was worth it to purchase 2.  I entered my credit card information, the order went through, and then there were several additional pages i had to click through to get to the receipt as the company tries to ensnare into buying more things.  I declined on these items.  When i finally got to the receipt, to my surprise, I was not charged the approx. $26, but instead was being charged over $56!!  They actually charged me $10.00 for each car mount we ordered, plus over $30 in shipping and handling, plus tax, bringing the total to more than $56!!  It was completely outrageous.  The company deceives you in the first place about what buy one, get one free actually means, then fleeces you again AFTER you place the order.  You don't realize you've been way over-charged until the order has already gone through.  I tried calling customer service immediately, but they said they could not cancel anything because it had been too soon.  Now i have to do a run-around between this company and my bank to get this charge taken off my card.

GripGo price review by consumer

AUTHOR: AlfredoA - ()

I just bought GripGo this product cost $14.95 and was suppose to be $7.95 for shipping and handling which its not. I don't if because I live in California but at least they should of warn me if some change into the deal I thought it was going to be about 30 dollars in total but it wasn't they charge me $62.78 is the total for the things was supposedly free but it turns out you also pay for the product and shipping and handling for $15.90 on both products. The other product is a free gift but it not free you pay as much as the product you got. So its $14.95 for both GripGo and $14.95 for "free" gift plus $15.90 for shipping and handling for the product and the free gift both plus taxes but that I understand. I mean shipping cost more than the product that's crazy.
My opinion is to buy the product some where for example amazon or buy in an actual store at least you see the total price cause once you buy this products it tells you what you pay for. Its not like other stores that before you make the purchase final you see the cost of the product and the shipping and handling.
I'm the person to search online for the cheap and the legit deals so i thought it would be cheaper to buy it directly but i was way wrong. this is the first time I bought for shipping for $15.90 they don't have an option for the price. i know I'm a little cheap but it not worth the shipping for a small product I'm it not furniture or across the continent. I'm not a person to write review always but i felt the need to say something about GripGo to save you money and hassle. so if your thinking of buying don't buy there. If money is not a problem then this isn't for then. This for the consumer who want their money's worth. I can't say if the product good or bad because I haven't received it yet.  I'm not working for anyone to sabotage their consumer market I don't care where you buy it but just don't get here hope this help on your decision.
Thanks for reading, Alfredo A

Legal action

AUTHOR: alexd - (United States of America)

I wish someone in Washington would do something about these online infomercial scams.  Every time you order something from any one of these companies they always back door you into double sometimes quadrupling your order.  Mine came out to $81 and i was trying to do the 2 for 1 offer and read the order correctly.  When you are clicking through the other products they have to offer one of them looks like you want to order the assembly that sticks the holder to a surface.

They call it the "deluxe" but when you go to the site to try and clarify whats the difference you cannot find out.  These people who start these companies are low life's and stay out of the public eye.

I will be contacting the attorney general of my state and senator who currently receives 50+ letters from me a year.  As a nice gesture of my support He sent the US flag that was over the capital in Washington on 9/11 this year. Good luck Gripgo.

GripGo misleading

AUTHOR: anonymous - (United States of America)

GripGo appears to have added some clarifying language to its order placement page regarding the terms of the "BUY ONE GET ONE FREE" offer. However, the website is still somewhat misleading and there are several ways it could be improved to further reduce confusion among consumers.

The HOME page of the website announces in very large, clear print: "BUY ONE GET ONE FREE! Only 14.95 + 7.95 shipping and handling." It is easy to understand this as a 2-for-1 deal (and from the comments many people have), and place an order for two. When you click to the second page, there is some mention of a set (the word is used once), but people not reading thoroughly might not catch that the actual terms of the offer differ from how they were represented on the home page. The company can very easily reduce confusion by throwing in the word "set" somewhere in the first place.

StevenF appears to have had the benefit of hearing an infomercial about the product, which is how he says he learned about the extra 7.95 shipping. Many people have not had the fortune to see the infomercial, nor do they have time to sit through an annoying commercial in order to glean such information. At the time of this writing the extra 7.95 can be found in tiny print (in white text, against a light green background, at the bottom of the page) if you search for the asterisk. The company (and others like it) would do everyone a favor by being more transparent in their advertising.

stevenf does provide some pertinent information.  However, although the axiom "buyer beware" always applies, there is no denying consumers are at a constant disadvantage in making informed decisions when it comes to companies' deceptive advertising and other forms of information asymmetry.  In cases such as this one, there are ways the company could easily make things more clear to consumers.

plain English

AUTHOR: bob - (United States of America)

If someone says 2 for the price of 1, it should be simple enough to understand, if true.  When it says plus shipping and handling, then shipping may not be exact to penny, but handling is a nonsense charge.

You can't ship something without handling.  It should be clear that shipping 2 for 1 is in same mailer, container, etc.  and one price for both.  The US post office has boxes for small items at a flat rate.  There should be no secrets.

If there is any double-talk, then the people who advertise should not be dealt with in the first place.

Price is actually Correct, possibly confusing however

AUTHOR: StevenF - (United States of America)

I believe the issue this consumer had was indicating the incorrect quantity.  They sell the free GripGo as a set, meaning that you only need to indicate a quantity of 1 to get the free unit as well.  If you change the quantity to 2 to indicate the free GripGo, then you really indicated 2 sets...which means 4 GripGos.

My final price for a GripGo, and the free GripGo (after selecting "No" for all the other offers) was $30.85.  this is 14.95 for the first GripGo and the second free GripGo, $15.90 for the shipping and handling for both GripGos, and no tax based on my locality.

As for the misleading about the shipping and handling charge for the second GripGo, I heard on the advertisement that to get the free GripGo, you just had to pay for its shipping and handling.  Not misleading to me.  Completely understandable for them to charge that.
