We are a small business that had successfully done business with Living Social, Gottahalfit.com and others and thought we would try Groupon. The sales team is very slick, promising you the world. However, they have so much small print in their contract and it's all bait and switch and the deal we got was completely different to what was discussed. All they successfully managed to do is destroy our companies reputation.
Our example. We were offered what we believed was a one off special going out to their mailing list and was going to be online for a few days. This was a price that was discounted over 70%.
Although the ad went live on their website, the link only said "No Longer Available". Apparently it was going out to their 'targeted' list on an ongoing basis and when and how they felt it was necessary. Not at all what the slimy sales rep and his assistant had discussed with me. After trying to work with them and find out what the deal was for a few weeks, I finally said, "ok, just cancel the deal".
Being a small business I didn't feel that I needed a law firm to review their contract and that is where my mistake was. Although the contract still does not say that the offer was structured as they said was, it does say that they will never delete their web page or history of any deal.
Understand that carefully. GROUPON WILL NEVER DELETE OR REMOVE THE DEAL FROM THE WEB. Their SEO is great, so this offer will always show up in google. It will say it's not available but this is still very damaging.
So now, almost on a daily basis, I am getting people coming into our business saying, they are not paying the price we charge when others got this deal. They want the deal we offered on Groupon 6 months ago.
End result of doing business with Groupon... No money from the deal / no sales and 100s of future customers upset and angry because we cannot give them the deal they constantly see online.
Don't waste your time & money but more importantly don't ruin your reputation by doing business with Groupon. There are much better and more scrupulous companies to do business with.
By the way. I seriously think there is the possibility of a Class Action Lawsuit against Groupon for the way they they damage small business. If there are any other companies that would be interested in looking into this, please attach your contact email or details to this. I will be talking with my attorneys.
