I purchased a jetski thru a Kawasaki dealership and they recommended their credit card.   HSBC was the servicing agent on the credit card.

I sent a check thru the US Mail for the July 5, 2012 payment.  HSBC said the payment was late and it was applied on July 6th, 2012 (one day after due date).   I wrote a letter asking them to waive the late fee as they were closed for the 4th of July and probably were a day behind in their processing the payments.   They turned dowm my request and I sent another letter ask them to reconsider their decision.  They then sent me a letter stating that MY CREDIT LINE HAD DECREASED!!!!...They don't care about their customer and use deceptive credit practices----Stay away !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Correction..

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

You were using 2 terms, Payment Date and Due Date.  No one mentioned the term "Payment Date" until you did in your update.  It appeared you were inferring that these are two different dates.  However, that may not be the case. But the rest of my post basically stands.  As does the question..when exactly did you mail off the payment?

Incorrect on so many levels..

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

First of all it is Standard Operating Procedure that when someone doesn't agree with someone who disagrees with them to say that they must work for the company.  The fact is that they do not work for this bank(and as far as I am aware no bank at all).  They are just pointing out how your blame is very mis-directed.

But your update actually clears things up a bit...but you are still not going to like the answer.

I have no idea where you got the concept of a "Payment Date".  There is not a single credit card I have seen in the last couple of decades I have delt with credit cards that split the terms "Payment Date" and "Due Date".  Or that "Payment Date" that is before a "Due Date".  They have a "Due Date" and if your payment arrives AFTER the "Due Date" it is late.  There is no such thing as "The check is in the mail" with credit cards.  Of course if you want to scan a copy of your statemment(with personal information blacked out) that shows two specific dates..I think everyone would love to see it.

When did you actually mail the payment?  The fact is that since there is no mail delivery on the 4th, there is no backlog..it just delays all of the mail by one day.  Unfortunatly, you are responsible for accounting for this holiday and should have sent your payment in a minimum of 1 business day ealier.  Your only "out" is if your payment happened to be due on the 4th, if it was received on the 5th they would have had to accept it on the 5th as being on-time.  But since your due date was the 5th..your payment is still due on the 5th...the 6th it is late.

By the way just how many letters were you going to write to get them to re-think their decision?

You misread my report

AUTHOR: Angry Consumer - ()

I appreciate your defense of the credit card company but I did not say I MAILED IT ON the payment date.   I mailed it in plenty of time to arrive BY THE DUE DATE which was July 5th.   They were closed on July 4th (a National Holiday in case you did not know that) and therefore I speculate they received it by the due date but did not process it until July 6th (one day later)--Company was probably backed up in their processing of payments and should have given the consumer the benefit of the doubt as it was one day---

Is it safe to assume you work for them  and probably treat all consumers like dirt?

YOU Caused It!

AUTHOR: Jim - ()

By your own admission...you sent the payment on THE DUE DATE!  You can blame them all you wish and call whatever names which make you feel good, the bottom line very, very obviously is YOU sent the payment without the proper time to reach them on or before the due date.  Go stomp your feet some more.
