H&R Block in manhattan, KS made a major mistake on my husband (Ex now) and I's 2004 tax return. We were audited in Iowa for that years tax return and they refused to help pay for the mistake that they made. They gave myself and my lawyer a run around and still were not helpful in resolving the situation. The person I spoke to was very rude and unhelpful and I was later told that she was a temp. while the normal person was on vacation. When I asked for a copy of my 2004 tax return and anything that my ex-husband did for that year, I was asked to send a request via mail with my signature on it. I sent it out the next day and over a month later called and it turned out that the previous lady got it and just did nothing about it. Speaking with the lady who was on vacation, I did finally get the paperwork that I needed. They would not, however, tell me how much money they had sent to my ex-husband for the mistake that he thought they made and refused to tell me if it was cashed or not.
I filed my 2007 tax return at the Coralville, IA H&R Block so I could get the rebate check and five or so months later, I had to call the IRS to find out why I hadn't received the check yet. They said that they never received my tax return so basically H&R Block failed to send it out. They refused to take any of my calls and did not return any of them. They refused to refund the money I paid to have my taxes done in the first place. When I had the taxes redone by someone else, it turned out that when H&R Block did my return, they messed it up anyway. They failed to put all my income on the return, which would not have helping me when it comes to getting student loans.

Hello.
I am an Office Mgr of a company owned store in Texas. I am sorry to hear about your ordeal. Our offices are only open a few days a week in off-season. I believe you have been misinformed on the Peace of Mind guarantee. That guarantee is in place to protect you, the consumer from CLERICAL errors (typos, putting things in the wrong place, etc.) that are made on your return by the tax pro. We reimburse penalty and interest imposed by the IRS should we make a clerical mistake. For an additional $29, we reimburse not only penalty and interest, but also underpaid taxes that were due to our error up to $5000. As it states in your paperwork, you have 60 days to inform the company, or franchise office, if that is where you had your taxes prepared, of any IRS letters you receive regarding your tax return. If your taxes were prepared in a franchise office, then the office is responsible for the Peace of Mind claim. This guarantee does NOT provide for any information left off the tax return at the time of preparation if, in fact, the tax pro did not know the information existed. i.e. (w-2's left off, miscellaneous income left off, etc.) Our people are trained to staple everything in the folder at the time of the tax prep. We have had many, many cases similar to yours where the clients says they gave us the form. When I do a return, if the form isn't stapled in your folder when you leave my desk, I didn't get the form. Beginning in 09, all forms will be accounted for and have to be initialed by the tax pro and the client to make sure abuse of Peace of Mind is eliminated.
Further, any information for your ex-husband would not be available to you if you are not listed as a joint on the return. Anyone giving you such information would be violating our privacy policy. If a payment was made on a Peace of Mind claim for a joint return, the check should be made out in the name of you and your husband. in which case, he can't cash without your signature.
