I have a Visa card with this company and one month, I logged into their web site a day before my payment was due. My browser was directed to a page which stated: "The current payment due on
your Account is $15.00. Make a Rush Payment to avoid incurring a $35.00 late fee."

I paid the $15.00 rush payment fee and made a $60-$70 payment on the account. My account was assessed a $35.00 late fee despite the assurance on their web site and the late fee plaed my account over it's limit. My account was assessed a $35.00 over limit fee.

I wrote to customer service explaining that they would need to reverse the late and over limit fees in keeping with their web site advertising that I could avoid a late fee by paying $15 to process a rush payment.

They wrote back explaining that they can't reverse the fees because of the Cardmember Agreement and Disclosure Statement. I wrote back explaining their implicit agreement when I paid a $15 fee for rush payment based on the language they posted on their web site. We exchanged five e-mails each making essentially the same case although I became more specific about their fraudulent advertising and illegitimate fees.

Finally I wrote HSBC requesting:
1. HSBC's agent for service
2. HSBC's official mailing address for legal matters
3. HSBC's official legal name
I explained that unless HSBC immediatley reversed both fees, I would have to file an official complaint againt the company alleging fraud.

I received a response with an apology about any confusion assuring me that my account would be credited within two billing cycles. I wrote back explaining that two billing cycles would be too long and that the credit needs to be applied befor next month's billing cycle begins. Also I pointed out that without the $70 credit my account was over it's limit and that I had better not be charged a fee for that. I indicated that I still needed the Agent for Service, the Offical Legal Mailing Address and the Official Legal Name, because if my account wasn't credited in a timely fashion or if it had additional fees assessed, I would continue with official aciton against the company. I am now waiting for a response to that communication.

Raising interest rates for everyone

AUTHOR: Karen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, May 21, 2007

What reason were you given for the increase?
Mine was that it was because of info in my credit report. If anything, my credit report is better than it was when I went with them 2 yrs. ago. My payments have not been a problem either.
They know that most of us have problem credit reports but they are using this as a tool to get more money.
There has to be help somewhere!

Over 5 years with HSBC and my interest rate increased??

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, May 21, 2007

Reading these posts it makes me only angrier, because this month, I received my HSBC statement and Oh My God, my stated interest rate went way up to 30.49% !!!

I have been with them over 5 years, always made payments when due, always getting mail about how special I am as a preferred customer, having them increase my credit limit, etc. and then this happening!

Nearly 31% interest on every dollar outstanding and this does not bother anyone??? Loan sharking is the only word that comes to my mind right now...

Is there no politican with guts out there who gives a d**n that the credit card compnaies can do this to people withs eemingly little to no regulations on them? It is financial entrapment and in any other language would equate to fraud and deceipt on the general public!!!

Credit limit scam

AUTHOR: Karen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 16, 2007

If anyone is looking for a credit line increase on their card-here is some info.

The first time I called and simply requested an increase. They gave it to me and also charged me 25.00 for it-so I only received a 75.00 increase.

The second time I called and worded things differently by asking to have my account reviewed for an increase. I was told I couldn't have one due to my credit report. Isn't the reason most of us went with them because we've had credit problems? In that case I guess they'll never give me an increase even though I have a good record with them.

They claim in their advertisement for their card that they do periodic reviews for credit line increases. I DON"T THINK SO! I've seen my credit report and nothing where they have inquired anything on the info in my report.

I logged into my acount and sent an email requesting an increase. I received an email (signed by a person whose name I can't even pronounce) telling me that the accounts are reviewed and if they give an increase it will just appear on my statement BUT I can also call the number on my card and request one. I guess they just want me to call and ask so they can charge me for it again!

This Account finally settled

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 02, 2007

I received a note from HSBC stating that my account had been credited, that my account was still over it's limit and that without immediate payment an additional overpayment fee would be assessed.

I wrote back stating that I had checked my account on-line and it didn't have any credit applied, that it's current balance without the fee reversal was $1.62 over limit and that there had better not be any fee assessed. I repeated my demand for the $70 credit to be applied before the next billing cycle and repeated that I would follow alternative legal measures to remedy the situation should they fail to comply.

HSBC replied indicating that they had credited my account and that if I needed further information, I should send a letter via mail to the headquarters. I checked my account and this time the credit had been applied to my account.

I will be paying off my balance and closing the account by the end of next week.

Call Call Call

AUTHOR: Emily - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, April 29, 2007

Once a month I do my daughter's online bill payment for her HSBC account.. Last month my daughter had made 2 payments. One was 3 weeks early and the other was 3 days early.. This month going online to make her credit card payment, she received a $35.00 late charge. She was 3 days and 3 weeks early.. I called my daughter who lives in Austin Texas and informed her of what was happening on her account.. She was shocked out of her shoes.. Me being in credit cards for 12 years in customer service and credit card fraud, told her to call HSBC and ask to speak to someone in the United States.. No one from India is going to help you..I told her what to say about the $35.00. Tell them that you actually paid early and you WANT the $35.00 removed ASAP. They can do it.. She has never been late and since I am the one doing the bill paying I knew she always pays early and ahead..

They did remove the $35.00 late fee as a one time courtousy fee. I say Bull Feathers on that. No courtsey fee here . It was their fault and not my daughters.. they ought to be proud of people who can afford to make payments twice a month and early. Not to penalize them for doing so..She then paid the account off and closed it. Her husband also called and closed his. This was her first experience of having this problem and the last..HSBC will never make money off people who pays ahead and pays off their account.

Banks and credit card companies makes their money off fiance charges, late fees, over the limit fees etc...and they never want to remove them as this reflects badly on the rep who took the call.. My job was on the line everytime I removed fees in favor of the customer..after all this was my paycheck..But stand your ground and do not give in. That is what they want you to do..And no one cares if you should close your account because there is 10 more opening an account with them..this is how they think..
