I just recently moved to Ontario, and was looking for a job. I saw the ad in the Hamilton Spectator looking for an air quailty technican. I called the phone number and was offered an interview that day. I was very excited. The pay was to be $500 or so a week, $2500 a month.
The interview was short and very confusing the only thing I got were the hours which were 12 noon till 9pm. I have small kids so I thought about the sacrifice but the money would help alot. I had to call by 6:30 that night to find out if they wanted to work with me and with no surprise they did.
Now I know why. They set me up to go to a training course for 3 days not paid, ofcoarse, and I went. The first day went by and I started to become a bit uncomfortable when they started making jokes about women but I am tough skinned so I just didn't say anything, by the way only two other women were there with about 20 men.
The following days people started to drop off not showing up and they called the sissy, and I thought they just didn't want to try. We were taught how the air filter that was to be sold to people worked and learned about indoor air pollution was bad for all of us. We enough got to bring home our product for the weekend.
The product itself seemed all right but the manner in which it was being sold was a different story. We were sent out to peoples homes that were apparently expecting us to do our presentation and most likely to buy one since these people were on the market for something like this.It was a system worth $3000
and the people were qualified to make this kind of purchase.
The scam is that I would have to do 72 meetings in one month to get paid, there was no weekly pay to be seen unless you sold something. I had missed about 3 days do to a medical problem but was on the job 6 days a week. I counted about 50 meetings I did and had a week to go to hit my 72. Then lone behold my meetings started to be people telling me to get off their property,
and refusing me in their homes like I was a scam artist myself.
I had sold two machines but thankfully they didn't qualify even though we were told all our clients did. I couldn't live with myself if they had. Anyway I never made my 72 calls and I didn't get paid for any of the meetings I did do. I spent about $800 on gas and food, and some new clothes because I needed to look professional in peoples homes, about 11 hours a day on the road away from my family and all for what?
They made sure I didn't make those calls and they made sure I didn't get paid!!! These people make me sick I don't know how they sleep at night! Please if you are young and looking to make good money, stay in school. They are the type of people that will take advantage of you as long as you let they.
This all took place at X-Mas, I was to be paid on the 23 of December, but instead I got the shaft and almost ruined X-Mas for my kids because I was stupid, Please don't do the same.
