Harmar 1A medical supply Harmar tried to get us to accept poorly engineered $12000.00 wheelchair lift,had to be redesigned. Sarasota, Florida

We purchased a Harmar 14 foot vertical platform wheelchair lift online from 1A Medical Supply in Winchester Ky. on July 2, 2012 for $11649.00. From the very first time the lift was operated it had a very bad vibration and noise due to the ball screw whipping. The ball screw is the 16 foot long part that raises and lowers the platform. Harmar said the ball screw probably got bent in shipment and said they would replace it. Since we purchased this via Internet Harmar hired a non Harmar dealer to repair the lift because they probably could not get one of their full service dealers to make the repairs. After the ball screw was changed we still had the same problem so Brian at Harmar said they wanted to change the ball screw again and the same repair person changed it again and still had the same problem. Harmar then sent one of their engineers and a service person from the factory to look at the lift. They did a few minor adjustments and greased the ball screw and said that was as good as it gets. They said that they had ones they sold that were worse than ours and that was normal. The engineer said ,besides you didn't buy a Cadillac and they left. We had to hire an attorney and we simply asked to return the unit for a full refund. Paul Johnson from Harmar said they would give us $4000.00 and we would have to get the rest from 1AMedical supply. Our attorney objected to that then Harmar asked for one more chance to fix the problem.
 
After more than 5 months on Dec. 18 ,2012 two repairmen from the factory came and spent 5 hours installing a redesigned anti whip device which finally solved the problem. Brian from Harmar said they would extend the warranty to 3 years instead of 1year. After 2 months of trying they finally sent the extended warranty. Harmar is very difficult to work with and were trying to pass off a poorly engineered product until they were forced in to changing the design. There is probably a lot of customers who have purchased these and have been told this is normal. They cost us a lot of time ,money and stress.
