I bought my Compaq Presario in 2008 from a reputable Taiwan dealer and I bought an extended 3 year warranty. It came with an initial 12 month international warranty and so if breakdowns occurred after that period it needed to be sent back to Taiwan for further repairs.

It lasted about 14 months before my laptop screen developed repetitive lines appearing at the bottom of the screen which slowly creep up but initially it developed a kind of dead spot of un-viewable screen when closing the lid. I bore it for as long as I could and eventually the whole unit failed.

I return almost yearly to visit friends in Taiwan and so took it back with me to Taiwan at about the 19th month of a 36 month warranty period.

They replaced the mother board and the screen, or so the report said at least. I returned to my country of residence where it lasted about another 3 weeks before the same line started to creep up the screen. I posted the unit back to my friend and he again took it in for repairs. My friend then visited me and he brought it back to me. Again it failed but this time within about a week so. On my next trip I took it back in for repairs and asked them to please test it by running it for a period of time. They again replaced the screen but I had to leave Taiwan early due to work commitments. This last time was effectively the last time I could get it repaired as the 3 year warranty was expiring.

I would have been happy with an effective repair but in hindsight as a company that should care about their reputation, if I were the CEO I would offer a replacement unit.
To me now HP have no credibility or integrity. They offer inferior product while duping customers by offering warranties that are not worth the paper they are written on.
I have read a few reports similar to mine and heat seems to be a major factor. Ever since day one you could virtually fry an egg on this laptop.

I write this simply as a warning to anyone contemplating either purchasing HP product or doing business with this company. Customer satisfaction doesn't seem to be a part of their company image.

Just think about it. That's one mother board and 3, yes 3 screens replaced on one laptop computer.
I'm disgusted. Just think of the time wasted.
