During the financing of a new vehicle purchase from Hidy Ford, the finance person, Scott, tried to overcharge me approximately $5,000. He did this by already printing out the loan documents with a baked in service contract, baked in extended warranty, and baked in GAP insurance. I was about to sign these documents when my son who was with me during the transaction, noticed these charges. When asking the finance person what these charges were, Scott responded that they were "necessary add-ons for someone on a fixed income".
When I told him I did not want any of the options, Scott turned very angry and said that I would then not be able to finance the vehicle out to 60 months and thus have a payment I could afford. He turned his computer monitor to us and showed how that would change my payment from $321.00 for 84 months to $390 for 48 months. When I got up to leave because I could not afford that payment, he slammed the keyboard down and angrily typed something, and suddenly I could finance the vehicle for 60 months at $305.92. He then made several disparaging remarks about how he expected my vehicle to have all kinds of problems because I was not purchasing these products.
Both I and my son sent letters to David Hidy, the owner, detailing the experience. We both received a couple of calls from various people at the dealership, all of which were unsatisfying and really enforced the point that this type of fraudulent behavior is condoned throughout the organization. In particular, I received a call from Tim Bell, the general manager, who immediately was defensive and tried to intimidate me by saying that this is how they do business and their job is to make a profit ("buy low, sell high" were his exact words). "I don't understand what was wrong" was his other crazy statement he made.
Obviously, I would suggest you never purchase a car from people like this.
