I purchased my vehicle brand new from Arrowhead Honda, it was the first line of 2007's to come off of the shipping truck. I am a college student and I really needed a reliable car, unfortunately Honda was the worst route I could have gone. In the past everyone has sworn by their Honda's, unfortunately I never saw the great side of them.

After I had my vehicle for 2 months I ran into a major problem. In Phoenix, it doesn't get cold very often. However, this year the temperature dropped dramatically to below freezing (this is rare for us). I was leaving for a job interview and while I was driving I decided to turn my heater on. About 15 seconds after my heater had been turned on my sun roof (due to the cold weather) exploded. Shards of glass went everywhere in my car, cutting my leather seats and my forearm. I immediately went to the Honda dealership that i purchased it at, and without even an inspection the service manager said, "sorry it must have been a rock" and told me to call my insurance company. This man did NOT inspect my vehicle, he glanced at it outside a window telling me, "Boy, I've been doing this for years." Even though he claimed he had never seen this before. Shouldn't experience be based off what you've seen, not how long you have been glancing out of your window to come up with a conclusion.

With glass still lodged in my forearm I begin to drive home, at which time it begins to rain. The inside of my vehicle is now soaked, causing my roof to rust. I then proceed to contact the Honda Corporate office. The first person I spoke with in the corporate office expressed concern politely, and i was told that a Honda case manager would contact me as soon as possible (1 to 2 business days). I waiting and when he finally got in touch with me he told me that because the dealership service manager claimed it was "a rock" then that is what it was, even though the service manager guessed that glancing out of his window (must be a difficult life sitting in a chair all day.) I asked to speak with the case manager's superior and Honda refused. I was told that "i might" get a call but it was not for certain. I called back again, and again, and I never was able to speak with the superior or get someone to help me. Some help the corporate office is, a parrot could do their job. Even though I had physical injuries Honda still refused to even show a concern.

After trying to get Honda to fix my vehicle I had no luck. I was forced to get my insurance company involved. After doing so it took 3 weeks. It sat at the new dealership, Honda Cars of Mesa, from the beginning of February until the beginning of March. I refused to take it back to the original Honda dealership because I had had enough problems with them. At the point when I had just had enough and was satisfied with paying my $500 deductible I picked up my car. After my car came out of the shop i sat in my car, and my sunroof wouldn't even slide. The slide itself was jammed, after they mechanic has JUST brought it up. Did they just expect for me to pay $1500 and not fix anything and I would drive away happy??? I went ahead and let them know, after I began inspecting my vehicle fully I noticed that the lip between the front windshield and the body of the car was missing, there was paint all over the back seat, scratches all over the walls of my car and a gash inside the windows on the tent, not to mention more shards of glass all over the car. Their comment was, "let's take it back really quick and we can fix it in a minutes or two." They drove it back to the body shop (took about 15 minutes) and when it came back the slide now moved, but it had a clicking noise when it did. I don't know what this was from now. On top of the fact that it was not fixed correctly oil and grease now everywhere on my roof and slide of my vehicle. A 4 month old 2007 vehicle now damaged in more then enough ways left me fed up with Honda.

Does this dealership do anything right? I was told "you can bring it back at anytime and we will fix it." But really, what is the point of getting a problem fixed only to cause another? I called the corporate number again and still nothing... I reported my claim to BBB, because obviously Honda does not have their act together. Finally after arguing they decided that they would detail my vehicle for me and pay for a rental car. If I were you and you had any other options stay away from both these dealerships and Hondas.

I recommend buying a Toyota or some other Japanese make, NOT A HONDA. Honda's service is Horrible, and their warranties are not worth extending. If you have a vehicle for 2 months you shouldn't have to go threw this...

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Sounds like defective glass to me.

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

Glass is a strange substance. It is of course formed in a molten state. As it cools and hardens, a lot of residual stress can build up. So they reheat it to "temper" it.

Properly made "safety" glass, as would be used for a sunroof, would have nice even residual stress. If it is made wrong, there will be excessive stress and it could just shatter at any time, particularly when exposed to temperature extremes.

There's no way to tell if the glass is good or not-- other than waiting to see if it spontaneously breaks. That's what warranties are for.

The fact that the glass broke into "shards" shows it was defective. Properly tempered safety glass will break into little cubical bits about 1/4 inch on a side. The little pieces don't cut people like long knife-like shards of ordinary glass would. You don't ever want car glass breaking into big dangerous shards, whether it was internally or externally caused.

Honda probably buys the glass from a subcontractor, possibly the same one who makes the sunroof glass for Toyota. So you're really not safe there either.

But the Honda dealers and corporate really treated you badly.

In a situation like this it is really best not to mention personal injury, it puts everyone on high defensive alert against a possible lawsuit. Of course if you really are seriously injured, you should sue. Trying to get compensation politely will not work.

Now your insurance may be asking Honda for the $1000 they had to pay out. If they are successful they should get the other $500 for you too.
