In Nov. 2008 my husband and I were struggling financially. We talked to our mortgage companies asking for help. They would not help us. We started looking at different options.
We received a call from Norman Tomasello at Hope Now Modifications/Gateway Funding her told us he could help us modify our current mortgages. He needed us to fill out the necessary documents and send him $1400.00 for a good faith payment. We filled out the paperwork and sent the money.
For months we were told from Hope Now Modification/Gateway Funding that they were making great progress with our mortgage companies. They told us not to pay anything that our mortgage companies would put the money we owed on the back of the loan. Now when we call Hope Now all voicemails are full.
I contacted Gateway Funding in Pennsylvania who told me the New Jersey branch had been shut down. I left a v/m for Bruno at Gateway Funding demanding my money back. He called back and talked to my husband and told my husband that Hope Now Modification had been using there name and they were not affiliated with them. Strange, because when I had previously talked to the front desk at Gateway Funding the gal had told me Norm Tomasello, and Derrik Schaffer(who also worked for Hope Now) no longer worked for the company and the New Jersey branch had closed down.
Our mortgages have now started the forclosure preceedings, however they are now willing to help us.
I don't know what's going on with all this. I know our money is probably gone, but the most concern for me is that business has all our personal information.
To all the people who read this don't do what we did. I have contacted the Attorney general's office in our state and in New Jersey. Hopefully this company, whoever they are will be stopped from ripping off other people.

How trusted is Gateway funding? I am a current customer and had a title transfer. I did not hire any real estate agent...could you please give me input about Gateway Funding before I advance? Thank you

I too am a victim. Norm, his assistant vickie and the rude customer service person Madila assured me all was ok. Once Norm had the money he never took my calls. I even asked Vickie are they a rip off and she assued me they were and backed by the law firm. The law firm took over around Feb 6th and Hope Now took my money $1639.00 on Feb 17th. It was suppose to go to the law firm. Norm did not work there from August without making money himself. I am working with my lender but I still know nothing. I to was told not to pay or speak tp my lender. I even received an email from Nick Pugila on 4/7/09 letting me know I would get a refund from the courts. They should be in Jail until they go to court, we would be in jail. All should be checked by the gov't who worked at this low life company. I hope they are all banned from working in this field for life, the sales force and customer service. I will never get my money back but justice will be done to all by God.

My name is Norm and I worked for the Hope Now Modifications. At no time did I ever do anything to any customer that I thought was putting them in a worse situation. I worked there from the first day we opened and I helped many of my customers to get modified and put into a better situation. The Federal Trade Commission closed our companies doors and we were not allowed to operate anymore. Riisah from Eugene was indeed one of my customers who I worked with and I submitted her loan for modification. I was in the sales department and was repeatedly told that everything was going great on my files and my customers were being modified. At no point in my life have I ever, or will i ever put people in a bad situation. I feel horribly for my customers who I earned their trust because I truly believed that I was doing them a great service. As it turns out, my great reputation in business was tarnished as Hope Now Modifications turned out to be a bust. The company started out helping people with their modifications, but I feel they got way too big for the processing end and were not able to keep up with the files. I am not making excuses for the company as I am very upset about the whole situation as well.
The consumer who wrote this story was a valued customer and I remember her situation and I am glad the bank is working with her. I offer my email address,(((Redacted))), to any of the customers I had at Hope Now Modifications. I urge them to email me and I will do everything in my power to give them some contacts to make sure they receive their refund for the services the company never completed.
