Cheryl Flanagan bashes other rescues making fun of them when they ask for donations to save horses. One rescue they are always bashing has help over 100 horses and has either homed them or gotten them the help they need.
Fund raised for gas for a horse down in FL that they never helped. When questioned about it blocked people from their rescue page and un-friends from personal page on Face book.
When you inquire about a horse listed for homing says it is no longer available but yet keeps the listing up for years.

I can attest from personal experience that HRRR is run with only the best interests of the horses in mind. I "leased" a horse from them for my lesson program in Atlanta that was one of their rescues. He had been on the track and was completely blind in one eye. Cheryl let me try him out, hauled him to my farm and kept tabs on him for the entire year I had him. His shots and coggins were all up to date and his feet were well cared for.
I also know from experience that Cheryl provides homes to many horses that were to be put down for no other reason than they were old and could not be used for riding programs anymore. She takes in horses that are injured and provides them with the best vet care she can and many horses that are permanently lame with navicular or other ailment that will never be suitable for riding again- just so they don't have to be destroyed.
All animals in her care see the vet and farrier regularly. They are well fed and groomed and those that can be ridden are used in the instruction program; those that can't be ridden are turned out or hand walked daily by family or volunteers. Stalls are cleaned every day. This was my experience at their property.
This is not an inexpensive program to run and Cheryl and many of her family have dedicated their lives to these horses. I can assure anyone considering volunteering or donating that this is a valid cause run by people who have dedicated their lives to end the suffering of horses. Please, call and speak to them. If you are local go by and take a tour- or better yet, volunteer some of your time.
