This rescue is dirty dealings. They claim to be a 501.c.3 when then have been revoked for over a year for not filing IRS since 2007. Their 2006 and 2007 were not files until May 2010 which would made them revoked then too. You can clearly see on the 2006 form where is says on the left hand side "Staus Cleared". For 5 yrs they have not claimed anything they have fund raised for.

Cheryl Flanagan bashes other rescues making fun of them when they ask for donations to save horses. One rescue they are always bashing has help over 100 horses and has either homed them or gotten them the help they need.

Fund raised for gas for a horse down in FL that they never helped. When questioned about it blocked people from their rescue page and un-friends from personal page on Face book.

When you inquire about a horse listed for homing says it is no longer available but yet keeps the listing up for years.

The Truth is Confusing to You.

AUTHOR: Cheryl - ()

You are confusused. If you just keep repeating lies, they do not come true no matter how many times you repeat them.  If you spoke any truth, you would identify yourself as who you are rather than hide behind a fake computer name. By using your real idenity, you can be sued for slander because you are not telling the truth. You know about slander, don't you.

People understand why someone is using a fake name, people are smarter than you think. You can slander and lie about anyone and anything here on Rip-Off Report. Please read the other people's posts, they use their own real names. They speak the truth. They have no reason to hide their idenity. It really is not that confusing.

False report

AUTHOR: Sunkissedacres - ()

Sadly, this report is nothing more than a get even tactic. Iron Gait Percherons chooses to believe that her problems are caused by the individual equine rescues in Georgia instead of coming to terms with the fact that her problems are long standing, in fact, yearly reruns and caused by her own dishonest practices.

Confused

AUTHOR: Justice - ()

What does this have to do with Iron Gate? Just because they have been the latest victim of Cheryl’s minions, attacks but if you will notice this report was written long before any of that came about unless there is more to Cheryl and her minions harassment and filing false reports.

This has to do with running illegally and claiming to be a 501.C.3 while their status was revoked not once but twice.

You claim they do such great work, but yet she has lost 2 horses under her protection and was placed in the care of their Florida farm in Milton. These horses are listed with netposse for almost 2 yrs now. Great work there. Makes you wonder how many other horses have come up missing and along with the money collected for them.

I personally tried to inquirer about a horse that was listed 6 years ago and was told "She has been rehomed" Point blank nothing else. No "Thank You for inquiring", "We have many other animals looking for their forever home". Just "She has been rehomed" Mind you this was in E-mail before Face Book got big. I then watched for another 4 years that horse stay listed and asking for donations for it.

Then there was the Florida horse that they collect close to 400.00 for gas money to get. Listed the Humane Society was going to PTS if wasn't gone by the end of the week. Which was NOT true. The poor place had to make major statements and corrections in the news thanks to her. They never were inline to get the horse and it went to a local private person which another rescue helped set up. When Cheryl was questioned about the money for gas they collected and status of the horse first tried to say they had it transported. When asked to where I was blocked and comments erased. The horse went 35 miles to it’s new home and the owner paid for their own gas.

I have a friend that has worked as a volunteer for 4 years on and off.

HRRR/Save the Horses has the utmost integrity

AUTHOR: Celeste - ()

HRRR, Save the Horses, Cheryl Flannigan, and all her volunteers have the utmost integrity and have a 16 year reputation in Georgia for rescue and rehabilitation of horses.  Interestingly, the only "rescue"  that has complained about being bashed by others is Iron Gait Percherons, which has two lawsuits pending that can be reviewed in full detail on RateMyHorsePro.com.   Questionable activities have been discussed on the Facebook page Gait Keepers and Truth Seekers of Horse Rescue.

HRRR and Save the Horses have worked cooperatively for years with other rescues with the welfare of the horse as the common goal.  The article referenced below in the Examiner clarifies this by highlighting the wonderful work done by Horse Rescues United of Georgia, of which HRRR/Save the Horses is a member.  This Ripoff Report, in my opinion, is a pathetic attempt to divert the focus of the public questioning the deceitful practices of Iron Gait Percherons.

The Truth

AUTHOR: Cheryl - ()

The Horse Rescue, Relief and Retirement Fund organization is a hands-on horse rescue run by all volunteers. We became a 501c3 in 1998. As time progressed and more horses were being abandoned and neglected, the amount of horses grew and the amount of work grew. We started the rescue to help horses. Caring for unwanted and special needs horses is our strong point, paper work was our weakest.

It was not uncommon for non profits not to file regularly and we fell behind with our paperwork for the taxes, In 2006, Congress passed the Pension Protection Act which requires the IRS all non profits must file yearly and if they fail to file for 3 consecutive years, the non profit status would be revoked.

All donations were to be used for horses needs and we did not want to pay an account to keep our books when money was always needed for horse care, feed and vet bills. We chose to have volunteers do our books. When we were notified by the IRS our status was in jeoprady, we tried to get our taxes done but out books were not kept orderly. We had to hold off filing out taxes, along with 275,000 non profits in the USA. Once we filed, it took several months for the IRS to get to our file. They told us it would be reinstated and to continue our work. Once they got to our file, our status was reinstated retroactively. We have since hired an account, Bean and Byte Counter, Inc in Cumming, GA who does our books and tax filings.

Claiming Cheryl Flanagan Bashes rescues. I have never bashed any rescue organization. The opposite it true. I have worked with several rescue organization within GA and many other states over the past 15 years helping horses not fall into bad situations. Stamp Out Starvation of Horses (GA), Trinity Rescue (GA), Beauty Haven Rescue (FL), Sunkissed Acres Rescue (GA), Red Clay Rescue (GA), Dancing Cloud Farm Horse Rescue, (GA), Triple R Rescue, (IN), Red Gate (AL), Pensacola Horse Rescue (FL), Willing Servants (MT) Iron Gait Percheron (GA) and more.

Claiming we fundraised for transport for horse in FL. We have worked with Pensacola Animal Control on two different occasions and transported horses to the rescue farm from animal control as well as private owners in FL. We have never deleted anything from our Facebook pages and answer any questions. We have never unfriended anyone. We have no problem with answering questions. This 'claim' is a false accusation.

Claiming we have horses fo adoption on our website for years. Again, it is run by volunteers and sometimes they may not know if the horse is available or not. No funds are solicited for horses available for adoption so all I can say is, I am sorry. The volunteers do they best and we are blessed with people who care and do all they can to help us help horses.

www. SaveTheHorses.org is our website.

Horse Rescue, Relief and Retirement Fund, Inc  EIN number is 58-2478748 go to IRS non profit website and look up our EIN number and see our status as a charitable organization as well as Guidestar.

Dedicated to improving the quality of life of all animals- Horses in particular

AUTHOR: jennijordan - (United States of America)

I was offended to find HRRR on rip-off report. I have known the Flannigans for more than 20 years as I grew up riding with their daughter and I have never known people more committed to improving the life of horses-and all animals- more.

I can attest from personal experience that HRRR is run with only the best interests of the horses in mind. I "leased" a horse from them for my lesson program in Atlanta that was one of their rescues. He had been on the track and was completely blind in one eye. Cheryl let me try him out, hauled him to my farm and kept tabs on him for the entire year I had him. His shots and coggins were all up to date and his feet were well cared for.

I also know from experience that Cheryl provides homes to many horses that were to be put down for no other reason than they were old and could not be used for riding programs anymore. She takes in horses that are injured and provides them with the best vet care she can and many horses that are permanently lame with navicular or other ailment that will never be suitable for riding again- just so they don't have to be destroyed.

All animals in her care see the vet and farrier regularly. They are well fed and groomed and those that can be ridden are used in the instruction program; those that can't be ridden are turned out or hand walked daily by family or volunteers. Stalls are cleaned every day. This was my experience at their property.

This is not an inexpensive program to run and Cheryl and many of her family have dedicated their lives to these horses. I can assure anyone considering volunteering or donating that this is a valid cause run by people who have dedicated their lives to end the suffering of horses. Please, call and speak to them. If you are local go by and take a tour- or better yet, volunteer some of your time.
