People that use these services should know that the 10% deposit you pay them is not off youre accomadation bill. The hostel never sees it, it's there commssion for providing the software in most cases the hostel pass on the charge you pay 18% more than booking direct.
I have the vendors agreement it's all commssion and they charge $2 on top service charge to cheat you further. people think the deposit goes to the hostel NO ? Their latest scam is pay $1 to protect youre deposit, that is there money anyway Crazy but you have to cancel within 24 hours, same they can charge youre card if you fail to show. Who keeps the money ? What if you are in Berlin and the night before leaving for Prague say something happens you get mugged, These companies will Mug you again as you could not tell them 24 hours in advance you have to cancel.
Keep well clear from online hostel booking services they are a tax on poor budget travellers, most of whom are students and all the first listings you see are high paid for featured ones, higher price and very bad locations, Not the best rated hostels by users as should be the case. Money talks you suffer.
I worked in this business 26 years they are killing off all the cool places to stay that do not have big bucks to pay them for a feature, people have a hostel for love of meeting people not money.
Young people stop using them and use youre head travel is an adventure go with the hostel runners on the station, it's safer and cheaper and if you can't walk to the hostel, then find one that says you can, you know you have a good deal at a much cheaper price and helping out the young person that helps you, not a rip off software milllion on youre back.
I made a hostel booking through hostel world, indicating that i was one person. hostelworld website then took the liberty of automatically diverting me to a booking that booked for 2 people. instead of telling me there were no single beds available, they just did what was most profitable for them and booked me in a double bed for 2 people.
it's quite cunning how hostelworld's website automatically turns you from 1 person to two. when i contacted hostelworld, i asked to cancel and refund. they refused to give me my money back and pretty much said it was my fault for not being more careful.
if youre the type of customer who likes using a website without having to worry about your every move, then you should definitely not use this site. one wrong move, and your money is gone. if you like using a website where the business will blame you for not being more careful in using the website then this is the site for you. my advise out there for people wanting to book hostels is, try using an alternative like, www.hostels.com , www.hihostels.com , www.hostelz.com . whatever you do, stay away from hostelworld. they are a deceitful company with no conscience at all. it is internet trickery to the fullest.
