I booked 3 roundtrip tickets from LAX to Dallas, TX through hotwire.com with 1 stop. I was fine with the times and the stop and I read all the fine print. When I received my confirmation email, it stated that we had a stop both ways and that was fine. But also in the email it stated that our reservation has been confirmed and there was no need to RECONFIRM our reservations.
On the day of travel, we knew something was wrong when we showed up at our scheduled time at Delta Airlines and were told that we would be flying from Continental? We thought okay, we boarded our plan and landed into Houston with another flight only 1 hour away going to Dallas.
When we got off our plane and asked for our gate to our connecting flight, we were told that the flight did not exist and were told to go to customer service. Now, after waiting in line and speaking to a rep for Continental, we were told that our connecting flight was cancelled on February 3, 2006 and we were never advised of this by Delta or Hotwire because AGAIN, we were CONFIRMED and there was no reason to RE-CONFIRM.
Mind you, we also were traveling with our 2 year old screamer and our 11 month old baby. So on top of all the confusion, we have 2 screaming children. We were told that Delta/Hotwire booked us onto a connecting flight that was over 4 hours away.
So now our luggage was going to our destination but 4 hours later than our original scheduled time, and now we had no choice but to wait four hours for the next flight, even though there were 2 flights in between this later flight that hotwire should have booked us on??? But we couldn't reschedule because our luggage would not be there anyways.
We had to deal with the same situation on our flight coming back home to LAX from Dallas. It was one hell of a vacation! Luckily, we were placed onto the flight with American Airlines that was nonstop. But this was after we called the airlines to reconfirm(even though hotwire does not recommend this). Even still our flight was cancelled within those 2 hours before we arrived at the airport. For this, we blame Delta Airlines b/c we did confirm our flight the morning of our departure and even were assigned seats online, but when we arrived, Delta told us that the flight was cancelled? Also, anytime that you have a flight change, you are sent through secondary inspection.
So our entire plane fiasco at the airport was topped off with going through secondary inspection TWICE!! Again, with 2 screaming babies in our arms!
To make a long story short, we contacted hotwire and they basically told us that there is nothing they could do. We understand that they cannot refund our money b/c we did fly to our destination. BUT, it's the hassle and stress and time that we had to deal with and FOR THAT, we should be compensated. I have requested to have our hotwire fees refunded because basically they did nothing for us.
My recommendation for anyone planning to travel anywhere, DON'T USE HOTWIRE.COM AND NEVER BOOK A FLIGHT WITH DELTA AIRLINES! Hotwire confirms flights that do not exist and Delta CANCELS all their flights and places you onto other airline carriers. Hence, making you go through Secondary Inspections!
